Having a difference of opinion, and I was just curious about the
theoretical truth!
Infantry sitting on hills/rough, no road.
Cavalry sitting on adjacent hills/rough with a road through it,
and going to other plains hexes.
Infantry issues move order into the cavalry's hex. Is it possible
to trap the cav in that hex. In other words, if the infantry
force gets the "first move", would they enter the h/r hex on
movement point 1, thereby disallowing the cav to move?
Or, will the infantry be sittin on its own hex for 4 movement points,
and then enter the h/r hex on mp 5? (cav long gone down the road..).
Short of the computer model for movement doing something strange, I don't
believe there is any way for the infantry to catch the Horsies. It is my
understanding that you expend all of your points off your movement
allowance, THEN enter the hex.
The "who moves first" ordeal would cover, say two infantry units in adjacent
plains hexes both wanting to move into the other's hex. One of them will
move first and trap the other.

Okay Movement is a difficult one - comes up 2nd most asked question (Navy
first).
Infantry Army (for arguments sake) will move on days 1-5 (ie 1-5 movement
pts)
Cavalry army will move on 1-3 (fas) in adjacent hex
Start of movement random roll by the computer as to which moves first
Cavalry or Infantry. If the cavalry gets the roll then it will move first
and break away. If not the Infantry will move into the hex where the
Cavalry is. IE it is not dependent on the movement cost (proviso: ability
to move into the hex at all) for the 1st day of movement.
Should the cavalry get away then on subsequent days the Infantry army could
intercept the cavalry army should it be in the same hex (as soon as you move
you are in travelling across the new hex, and hence are considered to be in
the new hex) as long as they are on the same day.
We'll create an appropriate example in the update we are working on soon.

I've heard this, and I've heard that you move then spend movement.
If you spend movement and move then you can never move onto a mountain hex if an
army is split off and moved out and I think I've seen it happen...

I'm extremely curious as to what battle the following encounter refers to ?
Anyone know ? I'm more interested in knowing it's tale / history than
finding the answer.

Alphonso lay in his camp in the depths of the night, with a dark,
cloud-filled sky overhead. He tried to rest. The chill night winds seemed to
taunt him by blowing hardest when he had nearly captured sleep. Suddenly
awakened by another freezing blast, he heard the sound of tramping feet rise
over the moan of the wind. He leapt up, looking for the source of the sound.
Moments passed before he finally saw them, a ghostly contingent of fighting
Men, marching behind an eagle banner. War cries erupted behind him and he
spun around to see another spectral war party charging forward. At the head
of the charging party, a man bore a clenched-fist banner on the tip of a
spear. Answering cries came from the first group of warriors and battle
seems
imminent.
ATTACK all
COMMAND both sides to stop
Attack the Men bearing the EAGLE banner
Attack the Men bearing the FIST banner
Declare your ALLEGIANCE
OFFER to mediate a truce
Say ______________ (only one word)
FLEE
How will Alphonso react ? (Choose any reaction shown in all CAPS or provide
info requested in parenthesis. If no reaction is given, he will be assumed
to have chosen "FLEE".)

RD: Hi Dan, it's just a stock encounter that GSI made up. It doesn't refer
to any 'historical' batlle, sorry!
