Naming Characters

If your orders are for turn 5 (looking at your turn 4 pdf) the
characters will not be available. Right under your economic table,
there should be the words "No new characters available at this time."

But, if it's any consolation, you can name a character AND split
an army to him on the same turn (next turn!) if you need to!

Question: It is now turn 5 in my game. I wish to name two new
characters but I am currently at the maximum number of characters
allowed (12). Can I name the new caharters on this turn (5) - with
them appearing on turn 6, or do I have to wait to name them on Turn 6
- with them appearing on turn 7? 10,000 gold is a bit much to waste
at this point in the game, so I need to know. Thanks,

Eric

Thanks. I learn something new each turn (never
noticed that "no new character" line before).

If you expect to lose a character, you can name one even if you're at
the limit. This is the only exception - it comes in handy when you're
under agent attack and can still name characters at the capital.
Replace 'em as fast as they drop. 700 orders come after the 600
orders.

One other note from your earlier message: you only ever spend the gold
if the order can be performed. This applies to purchase caravan,
building stuff, naming characters, etc. (You can spend gold
unsuccessfully researching a spell, but if you tried to research a
spell from an ineligible location the order would just fail.)
So if you put in an order to buy 1000 steel at 5 and there is none
there, you get a message "no steel available" and spend no gold; if
you try to buy a character when you're at the limit you get a message
"no new characters available at this time" and spend no gold.

cheers,

Marc

Marc,

For some reason I keep getting an undeliverable
message when I try to send straight to you. Anyway,
if you have anything on combat, I would appreciate
wherever you point me. I'm in a 4th Age game and I
haven't had to fight yet, so I'm still trying to
figure out the mechanics. I especially am interested
in what moving evasively does for me. Does your army
just disappear off your neighbors maps? And can you
by pass a hostile army that is in your path if you are
moving evasively? Stuff like that. I know they are
newbie questions, but I'd rather not go out and pick a
fight to find out my answers. Thanks,

Eric

Hi Marc,

I could have sworn that long ago I found you
can't do that, i.e replace a character on the
same turn they get killed, when you are at the
character limit. I really remember trying at
some point and the program wouldn't let me.
I've always been waiting a turn to replace them.

So thanks for that tip.
