I think that listing potentially good nations for new players is a
good idea, when a new player with absolutely no idea of the game
sends in the cheque to join the game he can be placed in what is seen
as one of the easier positions (based on experienced player
opinions). However, if there is a new player who wants to join a game
based on prior knowledge (such as joining with friends who already
play and therefore will have shown him the nation set ups) then he
shouldn't be prohibited from choosing a starting nation because he is
new. As has been mentioned before, he is paying the same amount after
all so has just as much right as the experienced players. I'd be just
as dismayed as everyone else to see a new player start off as North
Gondor but I wouldn't want to see anyone prevented from choosing a
nation such as this and it would encourage communication with the
player.
Just tell the newbies, that there is a list of suggested nations the should
try, but they could still pick whatever they want.
