Nations for Newbies

From: "Laurence G. Tilley" <laurence@lgtilley.freeserve.co.uk>

Possible answers may lie not in the allocation of specific nations but
in:
1) Newbie games. Teams of Newbies, with one or two heroic experience
mentors on each side.

Been here before - take too long to set up a game by which time half of them
won;t want to play. Also you need a number (around half) of the team to be
experienced so that someone will help out regularly.

2) Team games, where the teams agree to take on one or two newbies each.
I've often been in situations where there's been 7 or 8 folk ready to
play as a team, struggling to find more. An agreement to take on the
same number of Newbies as the other team, may be a good idea. This
would give the added advantage that players would play 2 nations if a
newbie dropped - as an alternative to the doubling up which often
happens already in team games from the start.

This often happens as it stands.

The team, experienced and new would then negotiate the nations before
gamestart - I've been in some SERIOUS negotiations on this prior to some
team games. It's almost as much fun as the game itself (and we don't
have to send you any money!

Heh - if you want to send us money that is fine - let's say 1 per hour of
negotiations - not a bad rate of money per hour per fun quotient is it?
