Naval movement through open seas

Your understanding is correct, there is a percentage risk, and I don't recall the exact %, but I want to say more like 10% than 30% ... Not sure what the mechanics are on the damage allocation, but something sticks about a "pro-rata" distribution (e.g., 20 total ships, 10 W, 10 T, carrying 2500 HI - suffer 50% loss - you'd end up w/ 5 W, 5 T, 1250 HI ... but that's just my best guess).

What happens if a navy moves through open seas w/o artifact protection?

My understanding is there is a risk of ships being destroyed by weather,
monsters, or pirates?

do the warships take the hit first?

what seem to be the odds of damage? (ie, 30% risk for each hex, etc?)
