The Poll thread went on tangents, which is healthy, all in all. One of which focused on neutrals, somehow.
Been called various things lately, lying backstabbing bastards, etc. Neutrals get a bum rap. “Neutrals are annoying” was another, amid an opinion to get rid of them entirely.
A couple things.
1-What would the support be for a 12 vs 12 standard, independent game? Grudge games mostly remove neutrals by assigning Duns and Corsairs to the Free, Rhudaur and Harad to the DS, and removing the Easterlings entirely. But, many people, who are anywhere from annoyed by to hating neutrals outright, may prefer starting a standard game with this set up, saving themselves the need for either creating or getting invited onto a grudge team. I’m quite confident that if there was enough support, the company would put the game out for general sign-ups and run it for it’s customers…
2-Has anyone been in a game where the neutrals who declared AGAINST you were honest and honourable about it, but those who JOINED you were lying scum-sucking backstabbing ringer bastards?

ps-mostly tongue in cheek, but playing a neutral 4/5 games is really starting to wear me down…

Yes I did have a couple of polite, honorable, neutral players that declared against my side. Then they became lying, backstabbing b’stards:-0
I’ll have to try a neutral position sometime. My position is that people who choose a neutral position must be choosing it for a reason. Those who stay neutral and watch from the sidelines must have their reasons as well. I never expect a neutral to explain why they choose one side over the other. I ask to try to improve my diplomatic arsenal but they are free to do as they please and can get away with.
There are some neutrals Vanya who don’t have a choice. Neither side wants them. Quackers comes to mind in an old Deft game his diplomacy got to the point where the Free actually gave the Neutrals a truce to go get Harad. The thread on that game got funny and sad at the same time.
I’ve also had neutrals on my side that I wished I could trade, to answer your other question Brad.
I believe every aspect of this game is there for a purpose otherwise we could play Risk
