New FA GunBoat anyone?

From Clint’s lists, we can see there are 2 current FA GB games in operation: 44 & 48. I’m in 48 and it’s a total blast.

Anyone interested in FA GB? We need 11 more folks.

My proposal is that we use the newest FA rules and the FA GB rules from 44 & 48 with the following changes:

These I suggest we add:
[ul]
[li]Nation Pairings change notification: ME Games will attempt to post changes to nation pairings on the Forum page each Friday. No attempt will be made to post dead nations. Use game mechanics to figure this out.
[/li][li]End game: No more often than once per five turns (ie turns 1-5, 6-10, 11-15 etc), a player may request that their team vote to concede. Each surviving nation on the team gets one vote. If 2/3 or more of the surviving nations on the team vote to concede, the game ends. Dead nations count as a vote to end the game. Votes are confidential (including which player requested the vote) and are solicited by ME Games. A “no-response” is considered to be a vote to continue play. The other team is not informed the vote is taking place unless the vote is successful, at which point all players are notified, the final turn is run, and the game ends. If not conceded, the game ENDS (then and only then are the players names revealed) after 52 turns - highest total team victory points wins (unless within 10% - then draw declared) - Or one side has a greater than 4 to 1 player advantage. No Diplomacy - under ANY circumstances
[/li][/ul]

These are Clint’s new 1650 GB rules) (Clint - if you see anything in here that you need to edit for ME Games’ support of this, please do so):
[ul]
[li]Finances:
[/li]i) Set-up fee: $5 per duo which will be used entirely for the Player Pool. See below for how those funds would be distributed in the form of free turns (subsidised by us).
ii) Set-up costs: Set-up cost costs the usual grudge game set-up (due to the additional database work) plus the $5 as in i) above.
iii) Discount: Reduction in turnfees is 5% if a player is running two nations on turns 6/11/16/21 etc they get a free turn on that turn to reflect this. This should reduce the costs of games by around 5% for most players (25 p discount per turn or around 42c per turn for North American players).
[li]Nations: Two nations per “team” maximum (3 nations no longer allowed). This duo can be split as normal between two players but they count as one player for purposes of number of nations per “team” allowed. Ie you and an ally can play together in a GB game if you want to playing one nation each and constitute a team.
[/li][li]Drop outs: One nation (non-kindom) players are eligible to pick up a dropped nation, then we’ll look outside the game for others preferably from the Pool of players. If they’re signed up for this Pool they’ll get the bonus money as described in 4) below. (If not then they don’t get the additional bonus).
[/li][li]Duos dropped: We’ll look to get a new player to pick up both nations from outside the game in preference to splitting the nation. All old turns will be available.
[/li][li]Single nation dropped: We’ll look within the game for players presently running one (non-kingdom) nation. Only the last turn will be made available in this situation.
[/li][li]A player will be able to request an additional nation and after a couple of days (to allow all interested parties to get in touch) that nation will be allocated to that player. At this point you won’t be able to request a nation in particular. If there are still nations available after this point we will contact you again with the Nation Ids so that you can then request particular nation (or as per usual if you send a list that will be a big help). As usual we will try to get other players in first but it’s difficult to do this.
[/li][li]Pool of players
[/li]What we’d like: A pool of players come forwards that offer to pick up a nation should we not be able to find players outside the game for GB drops. They would get the following offer for a pick up:
1st pick up - 1 or 2 nations gets 4 free turns for each nation.
2nd & 3rd pick up - 1 or 2 nations gets 3 free turns for each nation.
Further picks up get 2 free turns per nation.

Note: i) Picking up player must pay for their first two turns (ie we’ll remove the funds from their account and add 2 free turns so they’ll have a total of at least 4 turns paid for.)

[/ul]

Here are the FA GB rules:
[ul]
[li]No Strategic Site victory allowed - if you get one your team LOSES. Two teams of 5 players plus 1 Kingdom player. 5 players control 2 nations, and the Kingdom player plays solo. This gives 6 players and 11 nations per side. SK is FP and NK is DS. Kingdoms get only their sides starting maps.
[/li][li]2 nation game - you must play 2 nations. Exception 2 players control one Kingdom each (ie one nation per player).
[/li][li]Players are allowed to take offensive actions against unknown characters upon their OWN population centres. In other words, if Elrond, Erestor and John Smith appear on the Cloud Lord capital the latter is now a legitimate target for challenge, curse etc by the Cloud Lord even though the nation of the character is unknown.
[/li][li]Individual victory points at end of game determine the winner = average of your two nations (dead nations = 400 )
[/li][li]If you are playing the Kingdom nations you will have a character called: Lead a-b these are there for you to 175 (correct allegiance) and 740 - no other orders allowed. Check your relations and allegiances - we can’t fix any problems if there is an error later - check before hand and we can.
[/li][li]Trust the players not to try and find out who their team mates/oppo are - and not to diplome even if they come by such knowledge - it being considered unsportsmanlike. You are not allowed to use camp or character names to exchange information or 948s.
[/li][li]No influencing, stealing, cursing etc on or from or to your team (or unknown characters not at your own PCs). No ass/kid if you do not know the nation of the character if you are not at your own PC. If you think it is forbidden by the rules it probably is so don’t do it (ask us for clarification BEFORE the event). If you can provide feedback that would be very useful - the first game is going very well so we hope to make this one better.
[/li][li]You are able to transfer produce/gold from your nation to others in the game, and use information from 925’s Lore spells etc for your other nation.
[/li][li]Free turns:
[/li][li]On turns 6,11,16,21 etc you will get a free turn added to a single nation you control if you have 2 or more nations. This should reduce the costs of games by around 5% for most players (25 p discount per turn or around 42c per turn for North American players).
[/li][li]Variant rules:
[/li][li]500 (Double character) allowed for all nations.
[/li][li]FAQ:
[/li][li]Question: I know that we aren’t allowed to assassinate, influence or anything against your own team. However in one of the games I am in one of our Nations has died and they have some very powerful artifacts in their possession. In this instance are we allowed to Personal Challenge or Assassinate their characters to get the Artifacts or do we have to Recruit them through the Bribe/Recruit character order?
[/li][li]Answer: this is fine to do if you KNOW that the nation is dead. Get in touch if there’s any doubt.
[/li][li]No information transfer is allowed or allowed to be attempted in Gunboat. So transferring 23 gold (attack 23) or say 3221 gold and say 6 gold (indicating attack 3221 on turn 6) is not allowed. The ATTEMPT is what is against the spirit and rules of the Gunboat game - successful or not.
[/li][li]Hence the rule about naming characters, or arranging your armies into a number 1 on the hexes for attack player 1 - although a facetious situation it’s something I’ve been asked - is not allowed.
[/li][/ul]

Dave,
I know ME says it is very hard to monitor transfered nations and thus notifiy the other side of a new kingdom pair. Maybe it might be better to have the player receiving the new nation that same day to notify either.

  1. ME that an email needs to go out regarding the new pair (thus ME does not have to spend time watching this) or
  2. The player sends an email to all players telling them of the change. The downside with this is that everyone now knows that this player now plays the NG/Cards or whatever but at least the pairings are known.

Not sure this helps but just hit my mind.
John

See the format I’ve put forward about updates each week. John up for this game?

Clint

Clint,

Thanks for the invite but holidays coming and need to have my other GB game end first. My 1 player vs 1 player takes up a lot of time and money (but a ton of fun) so will hold off until after the holidays to decide further.
John

Clint

ok Clint, you were right. There appears to be no one interested in FA GB other than me.

sigh

Dave

I am enjoying the FA Gunboat game currently going on, but I’m maxxed in my game participation atm. Once one of my games decides to end, then I would be glad to try another FA Gunboat game. You’re right that there probably isn’t a huge player base out there for FA Gunboats, but they are likely already in a game or 5 atm anyway.

Mark F.

I think that with 2 FA gunboat games going on at the moment that the player pool is currently occupied. Therefore it may not be the time to get this going at the moment - in a few months time there may be more interest.

Gavin

Guys,

I would be interested in the next FA GB, or a possibly a grudge ( it may be cool to have three crazy guys run a side each-- it’s a but expensive, but devilishly fun to run a whole team!).

Jason

I am not in favor of a 3-way as it would devolve into 2 vs. 1 until the 1 was eliminated and then the 2 would fight it out… but another FA GB!!! YES.

Seems like we’ll have to wait a while though.

Dave

I am interested in a FA GB, but like most people who are interested I’m already in a game that’s in it’s early stages (one at a time, with small overlap is just right for me), so I’m unable to commit to one any time soon.
Re a 3 way gunboat. To me this actually makes a bit more sense than a 3 way non-GB, as the absence of co-ordination probably makes a 2 v1 battle less likely.

Gordon

Interesting - 3way GB might be workable.

Something like (no SS victory and including the other generic rules for 1000 GB):

Teams
Neutrals: N Kingdom, S Kingdom, 3 duos
FPs: 4 duos
DS: 4 duos

Maybe give each of the FP and DS combos a small bonus to SNAs at game start of say 2,000 gold to make up for small disparity.

Game could end when all of one allegiance has been wiped out so discouraging 2 on one play to a certain extent.

Thoughts welcome.

Clint

Clint and Gordonah,

I think that would be fun. Clint, I’ll play and will send you natin preferences/setup stuff as soon as you give the go-ahead.

Dave

If you’re interested guys get in touch - I’ve had some interest so far.

Clint:arr:

Do you mean little old moi??

I’d be game for that!

Jason

Okay I’ve got so far. That would need another 10 players. Gordon fancy it?

Clint

Okay I suspect we can’t get enough players. What about this

3 nation game - 3way.

Teams
Neutrals: N Kingdom + 1, S Kingdom + 1, 1 triplet = 7
FPs: 3 triplets = 9
DS: 3 triplets = 9
Total of 25 nations needing 9 players altogether (note you can always get an ally to split nations with you). Any interest in that? (If there is then I can work out some regional system for the game). Kingdom nation would get a 2,000 SNA bonus for their non-Kingdom nation.

There’d be the standard discount of 5% for duos and 15% for for triplets.

Clint

I’d be up for the 3-way Gunboat in the first option, but not the second (not keen on triples). We’d only need 13 players with the first option and I’m sure we could get that many.

Gavin

I’m reasonably sure we can’t get 13 at present. You can always play a duo (I’v deliberately left that option available).

Clint

As above, not interested at this time as my other game is in the early stages.
