New front page

Basically I’m getting the word out that there is a new “front page” for the forums, and I’m tryng to see what (if anything) people think about it.

All the buttons are broken inside the forums, though.

ditto - i see lots of little white boxes with red Xs in them where buttons ought to be. there must be a permission problem with all the images for the buttons.

Well, if I am ever able to reproduce any of these problems, I will fix them immediately. :smiley: I suppose I’ll try various browsers and operating systems…or something. Thank you for the input so far.

hmm the only visible pictures on the site is the avatars rest are x’s. I found the frontpage and found it graphically nice, but sadly unimportant.

It’s now showing okay on the home machine, but the work machine no go.

From today on I could actually see al the graphics, no more red buttons for me.

You know, the most hair-raising thing about all of the “borken image” problems is that I have done absolutely nothing to fix it. In fact, I have not been able to even reproduce it. I do appreciate any and all comments, however, good or bad.

One question, though. Those of you that are having problems with images not showing up, could you tell me what URL you’re visiting that is showing that? (I’d assume www.mepbm.com or just mepbm.com, but I hate to assume.) Also, and I know this may be too much trouble, but if you could right-click on broken images and click properties and tell me what the image location is? That may help. Other than that, I dunno what to do other than keep trying to reproduce the problem.

Oh, and if there are things that could be shown that might make you care about the front page more, that’d be great.

Also, this hasn’t been said before, but I fully expect that the “old hands” around here would just go straight to the forums and skip the front page. The front page is really designed for newer people, especially first-time visitors. The idea is to have a single page that shows a few useful links, has the Front Sheet right on top, and shows the most recently active message threads. I’d love to add more to it if it would make it more useful/functional, but I don’t want it so cluttered as to make it completely unusable.

Ahh, gotcha. when the old forum switched to the new one, some kind of redirect was put in place so that pbmforum.com redirects to the forums here, but the URL still looks the same in the browser. That may have something to do with it, but it still works for me without any errors.

There is nothing wrong with using pbmforum.com, since I think that’s what most old-timers are used to, but that is essentially the exact same thing as going to mepbm.com/forums. In the end, whichever works best for you is the way to do it. :slight_smile:

I was doing a Brad and using pbmforum.com and getting the same red cross errors, I just switched over but I still get them in mepbm.com.

I get quite a few, for example jusy now why typing this reply, I can see in the smilies section (to my immediate right):

Not working (red cross, white box)

But then the following do show up:

I checked it out, it looks good to me, I think everyone is getting confused with the old front page (I had to go to the new url).

Incidently, I had no problems whatsoever seeing all the buttons before the new front page. Maybe there’s something on the users’ end to do?? Change our bookmark or somethin’?

In that 3rd url, the word that is redacted with the “…” is “statusicon”

Okay I’ve gone through a bajillion style variables changing “forums.mepbm.com//” to “www.mepbm.com/forums/” so I’m hoping that clears up the issues with the broken images. Technically, forums.mepbm.com should work just fine, but who knows. Of course, if you’re in the mood, please feel free to report problems to me and I’ll check them out.
