Just a note to all ME PBM players who haven’t read Clint’s posting on the ‘Gunboat Game Devotees’ thread – Clint is planning to set up another Gunboat game within the next week or so.
If you’ve never played Gunboat, now’s your chance to participate in one of the most (and in my view, THE MOST) intruguing, unique and exciting ME PBM variants available.
The Gunboat variant is new but growing in popularity. But because Gunboat games don’t start up as often as the standard games (at least at this time
), Gunboat players often have to wait longer to get into a game. So if you really want to experience the Gunboat game, then send a sign-up to Clint and get in on the new Gunboat game Clint is about to set up.
If you’re not sure what the Gunboat variant is all about, check out the threads on this forum titled ‘Gunboat Game Devotees’ and ‘Read About the Gunbost Experience.’
Huzzah! The next Gunboat game is now taking set-ups!
It looks like 5 positions left, according to Clint’s post. If you want to try your hand at the most intense and exciting ME PBM variant available, you’d better send your set-up to Clint as soon as possible!
Clint posted a message on the Yahoo groups MEPBMLIST saying that only two positions in the 1650 Gunboat that is taking set-ups remain open! If you want to get in on this Gunboat game, then you had better contact Clint and try to get one of the last two remaining spots.
So anyone who knows who nimdraug is knows that he’s in the next gunboat game…isn’t that against the rules…?
The identity of the ‘White Wolf’ remains unknown to all.
Besides, it is not against the rules to know who is in the game. It IS against the rules to reveal one’s position in the game – or to reveal the position of another in the game.
But your point is well-taken: it is advisable not to announce one’s participation in a particular GB game or to attempt to learn who is playing in a particular game. It may invite trouble. And so I will not announce (nor have I announced) whether I am in or out of the upcoming GB game. The name ‘Nimdraug’ will not appear on the roster on players, I guarantee it.
GB is a game of honor. Those who play it are honor-bound not to engage in diplomacy or communication with others in the game. I have yet to experience anything resembling dishonor in any GB game I’ve participated in.
I thought the pdfs in GB games would tell who the other 12 players were ?
Jeppe
Jeppe, you are partially correct. It is not the PDF that gives the roster of players but your initial turn 0 set-up information. I save it but I don’t study it. I may want to contact other players once the game is over but don’t want to be tempted into trying to guess who is playing what position in any current GB game.
That wasn’t my point. My point is that since all GB players knows who is in their game, I guess it doesn’t matter if people knows from your posting that you are in the next GB game ?
Btw I guess you can guess all you want regarding who plays what as long you do not discuss the game with other people ?
Jeppe/who is hopefully in the next GB too
Correct, Jeppe. Gi Joe (Benmin18) lets out a “hoorray” on the forum every time that GB game 229 runs. It really doesn’t matter whether others know that you’re in the game. The important thing is not to let others know information about your position or fortunes in the game you’re playing.
So, Player, the correct answer to your question is that even if I had stated that I will be playing in the new GB game, that would not be a violation of the Gunboat rules.
But thanks for being so vigilant about policing the forum for possible violators of the Gunboat rules.
…and I have either proven that I am NOT in any gunboat game…or I’m that I’m not very observant…
