New Player education

I'm in my first MEPBM game. The start pack I got included a few pages of
advice to new players, which so far I've found generally sound. I also
downloaded a large fraction of the advice articles on the website.

I've generally found players willing to offer advice to a newbie, it helps
that I started as a 4th Age neutral so at least two of the allegiances are
wooing me (FP in me 146, why has none of you even tried to contact me?).

Also, I mentored a Legends newbie a while ago and found when I tried MEPBM
that he was an old hand here but not in my game and was happy to return the
favour.

This is only one data point, but suggests that there's no shortage of
advice so long as new players are willing to put effort into making
contacts. Are there ways to make this easier?

RD: No, the only way to learn the game is to play. Generally, experienced
players will help newbies on their team, because they want their team to
win.

There are strategy articles out there, but treat them with caution.
Firstly, as soon as somebody writes a strategy article, everybody who reads
it will spot any flaws in it and play accordingly. Secondly, the REALLY
experienced guys are crusty old b****s who have been playing ME for decades
(literally!). These guys do not write strategy articles, because they like
to keep their hard-won knowledge to themselves, unless you are on their
team, when they will be more forthcoming.

Store any pearls of wisdom that they drop, and build up your own files based
on your own experiences, and maybe one day you too will be a Middle-earth
veteran!

Best of luck Andrew!

Richard.
