CYA, don`t wanna be ya,
David Murray.

1) Don't tell the world you're a new player. At least you haven't said
what game you're in. If the enemy pick up your name and nation (perhaps
via the neutrals) then they're going to pick on you hardest.
2) (THIS ONE IS BY FAR THE MOST IMPORTANT) DO tell your team when you
have one. Identify an experienced player on the team and get him to
chaperone you - get him to tell you exactly which moves to make for the
first 6 turns or so. That way you'll survive. MEPBM has pretty much
some standard opening chess type moves, if you don't know what you're
enemy is liable to do then you'll get stuffed.
3) Talk to everyone on your team, and talk to them lots.
4) Keep a copy of your orders and check any oddities in the actual turn
against them (for input errors by Harlequin).
5) Don't accept an exposed or feeble nation: Northmen, Dragon Lord,
Quiet Avenger.

One tip is talk to your team-mates - when you start up you'll be given a
list of players on your team who will be able to help (and vice versa you
will be able to help them).

First game is experimental - by around turn 8 you should have got the hang
of most things that directly affect your nation. If you have any questions
feel free to get in touch with us as well.

The rules aren't that bad once you've played a little. There's a lot of
verbiage in there that's not essential. Same with the rules. You'll use
maybe 10-15 rules a lot, and the rest infrequently/never.

Rule #1 from my perspective is to double check your submission, then
check it again. Make sure you didn't leave any rule info out, or mistype
a character identifier. It's one thing to be outmaneuvered. It's another
to beat yourself.

Rule #2 has been stated already -- listen! If I'm on the other team, the
best way to let me beat you is to try and pretend you know what you're
doing.

Your teammates can fill you in on the details of your particular
position. Don't take a neutral for your first game (unless you have a
friend who can help you).

My Advice is,

Find a Mentor.

I actually learnt much about the game when I played a neut and told the
Free & DS that the price for me flipping icons is getting all my questions
answered promptly and lessons in playing the game. In one single game,
I learnt more about playing me-pbm in my previous 2 games combined.
