New SNA for 4th Age

I was thinking of a new SNA for 4th Age.

Characters have a chance of learning a "Lost List Spell" for
characters named with Mage rank.

Might bring more people to actually use mages in the 4th age.

Just a thought

Fred

Yes they'd love it - Curses and i think it would lead to a game where everyone is playing Mage nations with Curses and everyone asking to be FP... Fun if you like that sort of thing...

I think the 1650/2950 system is cool. In Kin Strife you get to have Weakness as an option but that's not out yet.

I think that he meant "an increased chance" of learning a lost list spell when the mage is named... like stealth or challenge rank bonus or healing bonus etc.

Game 46 we had enough mages get random Lost list spells (one Weak, one Sick and one curses) that we were able to put a squad together. I've run Mage weakness squads and they were fun to play.

Clint (player)

I'd be anxious of any increased chance but I understand the point (thanks for the clarification). Not sure of what balance but it's certainly an option for future thought on what we could do with 1000.

Also, besides the Spirit Mastery list there are a lot of other lost list spells...so the increase in Spirit Mastery spells wouldn't be that much of an imbalance compared with actually having the ability to learn Sickness or Curses specifically as an SNA.

Some are a lot more interesting to get than others -- a mage getting Teleport unexpected is probably happy, one who gets Fanaticism or Fearful Hearts may be less so, as there are plenty of combat spells that are more effective in battles with normal number of troops, the morale-affecting spells really only do better in battles with lots of troops involved, though they do have the advantage of not revealing the caster's name in the battle report. Summon Storms would rock if gotten by a military nation -- even without cavalry, it can be advantageous, and if you happen to have decent HC armies then it can be very useful. Conjure spells are all useful -- Conjure Hordes can be made effective, though most nations may not bother, but Conjure Food and Conjure Mounts are useful immediately almost regardless of your nation type.

So overall, there would definitely be an increase in the usefulness of Mages IF you take both Name M40s and "Increased Chance of Lost List Spell" -- though I would not limit the latter to when you name M40s, just when you name a mage period. Nations with Name M40s SNA are likely to name a lot more mages -- and get better results on their spells due to the higher starting ranks anyway -- but a nation should be allowed to take the "Lost List Spells" SNA without taking Name M40s if they like. (Just as a nation can take both Name E40s and Challenge Rank Bonus SNAs if they like, even though E40s are not the best place to get those challenge rank boosts in general...)

At any rate, it is MO that more SNA's should be introduced, and ALL SNA's should be limited by the number of nations that can have it.

I think the fact the program crashes when using certain game numbers
probably means we are a ways away from seeing new SNA changes.

How goes the programming changes?

Not meaning to be critical but I thought we would see some changes by
now. I have seen mainframe conversions from one OS to another done in
6 months

Just curious.

Sure what budget and staff did you have? I don't think you quite understand how budget constraints...
