Newbie question Re: Force March

Consider this situation: An army of 400 HI begins the turn with 76 food. It is located in a Major Town owned by its own nation. If the commander issues a force march order, will the army be able to expend 14 movement points? The rule clearly states that, “if an Army force marches when it has no food, then its Morale rank declines 5-10 points … and its range of movement will be reduced.” What I don’t know is if this only refers to armies that begin their turn with 0 food or armies that consume all their food during the turn and then try to force march. I’m not even sure that the army would consume its food because it would spend most of the turn in its own Major Town. I’m asking on this forum becuase I’m sure the guys on my team are tired of fielding newbie questions. Thanks in advance.

Scotty

that army will have 76 food at the end of the turn because the pop center will feed it…you can expend the 14 movement points…unless you’re fighting me and then your only option is to immediately disband all your forces

Thanks, O blind one. How does it feel to make a newbie’s day? Really, I appreciate the info.

I am only here to serve…although I must admit being a blind waitor often causes unexpected messes in the dining hall

You need to reference the “Larry rules” section

Scotty, what Celebion refers to (“Larry Rule”, or one of them, anyway) is the notion that you must have 1 food left in your baggage train after consumption to get full movement (a sandwich waved by “Larry,” to show your troops that they still have food and don’t need to spend time foraging).

In your case, you’ll have 76 food left (assuming there are no other troops also feeding at the same MT), so that’s no problem. But for other cases, be aware that it’s not enough to just be fed by your pc. You must have food in the baggage train, too, to get full movement. The (current) rulebook isn’t as clear about this as it should be.

You’ll always want at least 1 food in any pop you might want to hire an army at for this reason. Either get it there the turn before or never sell the full 100% in order to leave some scraps. 1 food is all that’s required to get full movement - as long as Larry can prove to the rambunctious troops that “Yes, we still have food boyz!”, they’re good to go

Thanks guys. I really appreciate the help. I have a new question but I think I’ll ask it in a new post.
