I'm sorry to have started this. My post was intended merely to reply to the use of the term Yankee (which I dont mind too much in the collective sense but would object to being personally called. I would always prefer the term yank, or any of the other previously mentioned alternatives.)
I suspect that if we wish to get into a discussion of the pros and cons of the Northern Imperialist Agressor there is a better list somewhere to do it on than this one. Alternately, this could be discussed privately. The only Civil War which is really topical to this list would be the one in Gondor.

There's a great book out by Garry Wills:
"Lincoln at Gettysburg; The Words That Remade America"
that (IMO) compellingly shows how unusual Lincolns

RD: Hi Winn, Brits use the term 'Yanks' for any citizens of the USA. We
don't differentiate between North and South; hell, ever since you rebelled,
you are all Yanks to us (g). If that's wrong I'm sorry but that is our
perception. We never say Yankee or Yanqui. Hope that helps!
Richard.

this free person would MUCH prefer to see the DS erupt
in civil war as the nazgul realise that saruon is
playing favourites between themselves.
i've seen DS versus DS fights in FA games (I was free,
and cheering all the way). I also remember one
'interesting' 2950 game when I was DS and the free
were coming into the back door in good numbers. I said
a memo to an 'ally' that said 'unless you raise an
army to help push them back, i'm going to tell the
free that we are not going to defend your city'.
That got my 'ally' to crank out an army
thanks

p.s and I was serious. I had my own pop centres to
defend.

well, this aussie calls everyone in the world
bastards.
ie bastard yanks. First their navy hits a jap ship,
then their airforce hits a chinese plane. Any bets on
the army is about to hit an asian tank ?
bastard brits, If they stop sending over members of
the royal family, we will stop sending our clapped out
rugby league players or
bastard indians. 16 cricket test wins in a row, and
then they came and beat us black and blue, or
bastard politicans. They are like nappies. They stink
and need to be changed often.

different language styles I afraid.
bastard could mean
a) child born out of wedlock. But since no one cares
anymore (unless people are talking about money going
to single parents), this definition doesn't get used
in normal conversation.
b) bad person. But its then normally seen with a
mixure of 4 letter swear words, ie words that start
with f, end with u-c-k, and are not firetruck.
c) A smart and ruthless person, ie someone who uses
their brains to get out of tricky situations.
in oz, if you were called a bastard, then its option
(c).
But back to middle earth ....
I second the query about the deft site. Facade does
have a board we can use, but I'm too old to change
unless I have to.
