If your orcs could be given eternal life, you wouldn't need the breeding
pits. One of the first suggestions that came up when Bobbin's announced he
was giving up his site, was that ME Games should take it over. Part of my
suggestion to Dave was that he consider making a grand archive, of all the
material, that has, or has ever been on the web. If such an archive were
in the hands of ME Games, or if at least there could be an understanding
that it would eventually be transferred into their hands, then the heritage
of player input into the game would be preserved with the license.

I don't see it that way. It is not the heritage of the player input, that
needs to be preserved. Player input is preserved by this newsletter and the
boards, as well as correspondence with MEPBM. Long ago, GSI's answer to a ton
of questions was, " This is discovered in the course of play." The information
collected on these old web sites was information outside of the GSI's control
and may have not existed in the form we know today had it not been for
outside web sites and articles in "Whispers of the Woods" and other game
newsletters. A lot of it was/is misinformation but it is still a work in progress. And
that is the point.

A grand archive is a fine idea Lawrence. I hope it works out either way, but
I think you may wish to consider what would be lost and what would be gained.
The loss seems the greater to me.

PS. I believe that giving orcs eternal life might diminish, the standing of
Sauron and the Nazgul.

Editors note: This was/is just another persons opinion. It by no means was
intended as an affront to Lawrence or anyone else. It will also be my last word
on the subject.

I was referring to much of the old material that was on old web sites, and
is now hard to find.

I know a fellow who still gives that intensely irritating response
today. I've put a contract on Clint with some Cardiff thugs. They're
going to jump him an a dark alley for me, drag him off to a tattoo parlour
and have "This was discovered in the course of play" stamped on his head

Yes, but ME Games should not be imagined to be part of some sinister CIA
FBI conspiracy. They now routinely publish player submitted information,
and I think they're fairly good at making it clear what is "official" and
what is not. I'm the first to speak out when I think the company are
getting things wrong, but I do trust them to take proper care of material
put into their hands - and I think the license holders are liable to be a
better long term custodian than the webmasters, who pop up every couple of
years, then disappear like so much chaff in the wind. (Though I very much
regret Bobbin's decision and I'm very much hoping that Dave will live
forever

 Not sure how else to put it when I get the 10th email that week asking, "so EXACTLY how does combat work then? and EXACTLY what are the modifiers for the different tactics".

So it was you who jumped Ed then...

Well you could sound a bit more penitent about it

A tattooed fellow? I imagine that there must be some truly memorable
tattoo parlours in Cardiff.
