Someone asked:
What are UK's major exports (besides scottish whiskey) ??? <<
And then someone replied:
Oil? Meat? Tourism? Don't know
Don't see how tourism could be classed as an export
The UK exports a great deal of oil from the North Sea and, in days past, exported large quantities of coal until the demise of the coal industry. The UK remains one of the principle places to trade on the stockmarket and exports serious amounts of invisible goods such as Insurance and expertise in many scientific fields.
If someone is REALLY interested then I can look up some web references for them, give me an e-mail if you are that sad

Do Harry Potter and AbFab count as exports?

RD: Oil? UK is still a net importer.
Meat? Are you the only guy in the world who didn't hear about the
foot-and-mouth epidemic?
Tourism? Well yes we export tourists, and some of them don't come back from
exotic locations if they get murdered, kidnapped or caught with drugs in
their possession. But I think what you meant was that we make more money
from foreign tourists visiting this country!

Maybe but very little north sea oil ends up in the UK, it constitutes one of
our major exports ... which was the question after all

Matthew
UK is a net exporter of oil with 拢15 billion out and 拢9 billion in.
The North Sea stuff is not much use for petrol.
UK exports lots of stuff, but imports more. Fortunately we own a
considerable part of the world so can live off that.
