Hi,
Saw the film last night in a packed and rather noisy cinema ...

The film was excellent though, to a LOTR fanatic, a little disappointing
in some respects owing to things that had to be left out (Tom Bombadil,
the Old Forest, the Barrow Downs, Bill Ferny, the hilltop battle with
the Wolves etc etc). At three hours in length though, the film would
have been monstrous if everything had been put in! For anyone that
hadn't read the book though I guess this wouldn't matter.

The acting was excellent, with Christopher Lee stealing the crown as
Saruman. Moria sticks in the memory as pretty outstanding, as did the
orcs and the cave troll. The Elves were slightly camp and wooden though
Galadriel was good. On
the whole it was a visual treat and I'm definitely looking forward to
part two next Christmas.

All in all I'd give it an 8/10.

Colin.

RD: Harsh, Clint! I'd give it 9/10 if only because nothing is ever perfect.

The cave troll was excellent, and fully warranted the much longer appearance
than it made in the book.

The orcs? Is it just me, or do they use exactly the same makeup as the
vampires in Buffy?

Camp elves? Two of the Lorien elf archers were definitely female! I
think.... Now you have me worried! I'm going to see it again on saturday
to make sure!

Richard.

The Cave troll was awesome, imagine having to take that thing on!
isn`t Gothmog in MEPBM a troll?
I think Bill Ferny was hinted as as one of the squinting guys in the
Prancing Pony? Also with the Mirror of Galadriel it seems like the
scouring of the shire will be making an appearance later on. We might
see Mr Ferny then?
As for the camp elves. hmmm, i kinda think they were going for that
androgynous look. But maybe they were female.
