Off Topic: US Taxes

I'll make this my last contribution on this subject (y'all are prolific when
I'm asleep).

[snippage}

And it will get worse no doubt under Dubya and company...

The costs of medical care are market driven, we've got the best quality of
care (in general) and we pay through the nose for it. Yet, when ill, I'd
rather be here in the US than anywhere else in the world.

I take it you plan on dying before age 65, then?

Since I have over 30 years before I will qualify for the least amount of
Social Security, I have no faith the program will be around for me to take
advantage of. Who knows, if I win the lottery, I'll not need SS.

[more snippage]

I don't think SS is a waste (as people need money to
survive, and I would rather the goverment give it to
someone who is unemployed. The other option is them
stealing from me to get it. The magic question is 'how
much should a person be given', as some people realise
they are better not on unemployment).

I'd rather the government give out SS as a lump sum to be held in trust and
invested on behalf of the recipient.

Ok, I have read way too much of this "Off Topic" to not add my $0.02
US to... Especially on such a hated topic = US Lawyers

My view on this topic is that we are NOT paying outrageous prices for
medical care due to quality but as a result of high insurance costs
for the medical industry. The reason for this high insurance is the
excess of fraud and way too many ambulance chasing lawyers. Although
unrelated, if a US jury is going to award a woman huge sums of money
as a result of spilling coffee in her lap & burning herself, what is
the system to do. The US juror needs to realize that there is no
such thing as the big guy (industry usually) and the little guy
(them). Every senseless dollar that they make the big guy pay will
evenually come out of their pockets. I feel that I may be rambling
so as a result I'll just shut up!

This is the general consensus of the nations under 35 (or maybe 40)
workforce. Just look at it as giving your parents your share of
income into their SS check (once they start receiving it) with the
government taking their 55% (in administrative costs) for their
inefficient shuffling of the funds from point A to point B.

Accepting US taxpayer & lackey

I reckon we should all follow middle earth in real
life. A tax rate of 39% or below makes me happy, and a
tax rate of over 60% makes me unhappy.

A tax rate of 40-60 gets mixed reactions.

Now that I think of it, I can get a lot of my money by
stealing from someone else. Maybe people shouldn't be
following middle earth after all.

thanks

p.s. nice issue of Bree 9. The translations were
funny. But I would like to see more articles talking
about how to play nations that get the stuffings
kicked out of them, not articles on how to do it - so
is anyone willing to write 'How to ensure the WK
survives past turn 5 in a normal 1650 game' ?

And need I say "Why no 2950 articles ?"

The effective tax rate (counting federal, state, and sales taxes, plus
such delightful levies as Social (In)Security, and 'operating costs'
incurred complying with tax law), is about 50% for most working USAns.
And yes, it gets mixed reactions...
