Where else in the world you see Muslims (of different sects),
Christians (of various denominations), Buddhists, Hindus,
Punjabis, etc etc people of multiple religions living in peace ?
Where else in the world where you see Churches, Mosques,
Chinese, Indian, Buddhist & other temples in the same city
or town ? and yet no riots happenening every other day ?
Which Country still has the tallest building in the world intact ?
Which Country has the Longest Shopping Mall in the World ?
Which Country has the Tallest Communications Tower in the World ?
Britain, particularly London (The rest is just hinterland really)for
the first two paragraphs. We are also a mature enough culture not to
be overly concerned with the other baubles of consumerism you
mention, our contempt for such we have shown by spending $1.5 Billion
dollars on a useless, disintegrating Dome to mark our passage to a
new millenium which, you guessed it, must make us the greatest nation
in the world (I think, err... hmmm).
As for the Dwarves, we all know they have SCOTTISH accents not some
some primitive colonial patois. You'll be blathering on about
the 'Azanzibular Dum Tea Party' next!

All the "what if" discussion is pointless, unless your writing some
science fiction (Harry Turtledove), the measure of greatness is in
the "NOW" and is measured by who can kick who's buttocks militarily.
We all know who would win.
