Open Game format?

The open format is dead for one simple reason. Any
alliance working as a team will roll over any team
working as individuals.

Even if you have a field marshal and 5 or 6 players
that follow him, you're going to get quickly stomped
by the opposition if they have 8+ players working
together.

Throwing 25 people together randomly, you're rarely
going to end up in a situation where an equal number
of team players end up on each side.... Even 1 or 2
more team players on one side than the other, and the
game is over very quickly.

Let's say half the people that join an open game do so
to help their team win, and the other half join to
envoy running their nation without the team demands
found in grudge games. 12ish team players. 12ish
individual players..... In this case, there are 13
possible combinations ranging from all 12 ending up on
one side, to all 12 ending up on the other side. In
only 1 of those 13 cases do the team players get split
50-50. The other 12 of 13 combinations is a cake walk
for whichever side gets more team players.

Good, well coordinated team play quickly destroys
individual play..... every time!

I think, as much as anything else, you need to make
sure that each team has one player who you feel
confident is a "field marshal" for that side.
