Origins or Gencon

Ohio is closer to the East Coast of the USA, and it is my impression
that it is a larger convention. There is also a decent-sized local
gaming base in Columbus; you might even get some volunteer help from
the locals (eg setting up a game run during the con with some local
ringers to show folks how it is played; GSI did something similar at
Origins in the past.) If Harly is interested I can check with the
local folks here in Columbus and we might be able to get some
volunteers to assist new folks in doing their orders who might want to
do a trial run. I'd be willing.

Ok Marc,

We concede Ohio has a group of players, but this is the 4th post I've read
claiming it.
Having been in the game since 1991, I know of several groups around the
country just as active as the Ohio players. That said, I find the Ohio
players some of the best and nicest in the country and the best player I ever
met comes from that area. (Look at old
Whispers in the Woods hall of fame lists and you will find him listed many
times. He is
the ONLY player I ever saw with a perfect score, thus a clue to his Identity)

As to a site or convention spot, I would suggest someplace with direct
flights to
England, good access for the rest of the country, and a strong gaming /
fantasy
following. Orgins may provide that depending on the year, Lake G. for Gencon
does not
meet the travel criteria. What you do get is lost in the crowd at both
conventions.

As I suggested before, but nobody picked up on, was a site that meets all of
the above
and Middle Earth Games would get better marketing coverage. That is
DragonCon
in Alanta.
NASIF,Joined up with them a few years ago and it was one of the best Con's
I've ever
attended.
Alanta is both a realistic drive for a lot of the Eastern US (including the
South, It's 8 hours for Me) and it has a airport that most people can get to
at reasonable costs.
The DragonCon people will be happy for your volunteers and the people I
travel with
and meet share a room and the costs. www.Dragoncon.org is the web page. It is
being held from 8/31 to 9/4 this year giving time for planning.

That's a final plug, sorry, but I figured I lead the horse and see if he
drinks.
My understanding is the airfares would be more reasonable to Alanta from
England
(source is several British Citizens that travel a lot) and I know from
experience that
they are better than some of the fares in the North East.

PS: I think 109 is dead.

Just as a small bynote, GenCon is not held at Lake Geneva, thats where
the TSR Headquarters is. GenCon is held in Milwaukee, which is not too
far from Chicago (70 miles or so), which has direct flights to almost
everywhere it seems.

Heard lots of good stuff about DragonCon, but from what I've gathered,
isn't it more like a generic SciFi/Fantasy convention, as opposed to a
gaming convention like GenCon/Origins are?

We're very likely to go with Gencon as it seems more suitable - when the
backlog drops to reasonable levels I'll check into this (or should a helpful
player want to do it?_)
