Most probably to give Faramir a bit more screentime, and to show off
Osgiliath, which was nice enough

I don't mind that they did it, I mind that that they didn't do OTHER things in order to make time for it and the Arwen scenes. Specifically, I think that Jackson should have gone farther than Tolkein did in the book, and gone ahead and done the Paths of the Dead sequence, and maybe the capture of the black fleet, which wasn't really in any of the books, but was key to the storyline, and which they may not have time to do in the 3rd movie with all the critical plot stuff.

The BBC radio play makes a good job of this. Some very creepy music and nice
effects, plus covers the necessary material without taking an age over it.

Regards,
Tim.

Osgiliath was OK, except that they totally butchered Faramir's character
to do it -- he's NOT the sort of person who would take the Ring in the
first place. Not good.

They did get Eowyn right, as far as I can tell.

And I have officially forgiven Jackson et al. for the dwarf-tossing
line in _Fellowship_ -- it sets up a really nice scene at the Battle
of Helm's Deep, where Aragorn has to toss Gimli into the fight over
a gap...

One thing that I am missing is the growing friendship between Gimli
an Legolas that is a huge part of the books

anyone agree??

You'll have to shell out more bucks to see the Extended DVD version
of Two Towers for this. Supposedly some scenes in Fangorn and
Aglarond (Glittering Caves) were filmed that include Gimli and
Legolas.
