Palantir question re allegiance

I notice from a game in which I am DS (all declared neutrals have their
allegiances marked correctly) that even though I have just DS xmls loaded,
a pop report labels FP characters as "Friendly Characters" and allied
characters as "Enemy/Independant characters". Is this a bug, or have I
made an error in setting up the game?

Possibly didn't change the allegiances correctly?

When you set up the game, "your" Nation Number is defaulted to 1 yes? If so,
did you set this up correctly?

I don't remember it ever asking for my "your" nation number.

It does when you setup each game initially, this and this alone dictates
what palantir perceives to be friendly/enemy/neutral.

You can get round it simply by editing the ini file corresponding to your
game number
