Watch what game you have loaded in Palantir as I mistakenly imported the wrong game info into mine. The import worked though to some extent and had pop centres that weren’t supposed to be there on my map from the other game.
Any other glitches put them here, I have as I lost the group email addy.
In one of my games, a position SS’d so its turn number is behind everyone else. Anyone have any suggestions how to fix or edit the XML file? I’ve tried opening it with notepad and editing the turn number, but then the palantir program doesn’t recognize it as a valid XML file, even though there does not appear to be any “bad character” issues, extra spaces, etc., when I open the file with explorer. All of the data from this position ends up appearing to be a turn old, each turn. Thanks for any help.
I’ve edited the turn number both inside the file and changed the filename to correspond. Security code/secret tag is ok. I have no idea what the Int tag means or represents, so perhaps my problem lies there? What is it?
This sounds strange, that a nations XML file is one turn behind because of an SS? Sounds like a bug in the XML file, think you should let Clint know about this.
I havent tried to force an XML file a turn ahead or behind, and can’t help you Drukarzun, sorry. I have only tried to manually add chars, armies, navies and pops into an xml file.
Back in the day there was two types of special service, (not sure if you still have the option) the one way was to have default orders assigned to all the characters like rfspers etc. the second was to have no orders run, but the benefit would be that you didn’t have to pay for the turn.
In the second case, since no orders were run for your nation, your turn number was not increased. Thus you would be a turn behind.
I don’t think I have ever questioned your customer focus before but I have to this time. “No Bug”. OK so it works as programmed. Does it work in the best way for the customer? I think not!
Surely it would be better for the players if an SS turn didn’t “lose a turn” so that everyone could import files into Palantir without having to “manually amend them”
I would suggest that this isn’t a bug (its the way the programme works) but that you should consider changing this (if possible) for a future release.
Cheers

PS overall the programme is fantastic and way beyond my programming ability so I’m impressed anyway. The above is from a customer focused IT Project Manager’s view point
Actually I misspoke before, the nation is a turn behind because it missed a turn without special service (as Zalendar alludes to). I already asked ME Games and they said they couldn’t or wouldn’t modify the turn number for the nation – can’t remember precisely what they said but the gist of it was that the nation stayed a turn behind. It was no big deal at the time because this was before the Palantir mapping program came out, maybe even before XML files (yes, it’s been that long ago!). Perhaps they will revisit the issue now…I’ll contact Clint privately and see. I was just hoping there was an easy fix on my end so I wouldn’t have to bother him…
“Does it work in the best way for the customer? I think not!”
I agree it does not. Palantir is not perfect, it’s still very much a program in development but like many things we do, as PBM does not earn a lot, we can’t pay a lot for development so we get the best we can.
I think that you can just edit the turn number and that’s an “easy” fix. Or import that turn, then do the normal turns. As for the main program itself not advancing turn numbers that’s a different issue and one that might need addressing.
Allow me to report back and give credit, once again, to the level of customer service at ME Games Ltd. They have resolved my issue by advancing the turn number of the nation in question to correspond with all the others. I know Stuart probably gets tired of hearing it <g>, but for those of us who were used to GSI’s customer service (or lack thereof), Clint & gang do a superb job.
