Can anybody tell me anything about Pallando the Blue? Thanks in
advance!
Only info I have beyond that he arrived as one of the
5 Ishtari and went east with Alatar (not to return to
the west) is from ICE. I'll email it to you
individually as a few on this list will hammer
anything not expressely in the Tolkein books and have
a fit if anything is written otherwise. It's at home,
I'm at work, so gimme a few hrs.

Actually, Tolkien did leave notes on the Blue Wizards, as set down in Unfinished tales. Pallando and Alatar were both signified by the color blue. I beleive, but could be wrong, that Pallando was associated with the Vala Orome. Nonetheless, Pallando and Alatar ventured into the eastern regions of Middle-Earth, apparently with Saruman. However, they did not return with Saruman into the northwestern parts of Middle-Earth. Tolkien said he knew little of their fate, but suspected that they were at the origins of many of the cults and "pagan" religions that arose among mankind, especially in the east and south of the world. Tolkien also was of the opinion that the Blue Wizards' activities ultimately indicated the failure of their original mission to help the Elves and Mankind oppose Sauron. IMHO, however, Tolkien was a little biased on that point, suggesting that Radagast also failed, even though the Brown Wizard was sent specifically at the request of Yavanna to help protect the natural world. Perhaps the good professor was a little too Elvish/Numenorian-ish centered, and failed to recognize that the animals, plants and even humanity beyond the northwest of Middle-Earth had a right to protectors and advocates of their own.
Man, do I need a real life, or what....
