PC threatening

Hi!

I have an interesting (at least for me) question about threatening:

How do you calculate the chance of successfully threat a PC?
I will threat a Town/Tower with about 2800 troops and a Commander with
C40.

Thx,

RD: The two critical stats are those of the Threatening commander v the
loyalty of the pop (don't worry too much about troop numbers). A C40 will
not succeed with a Threat (regardless of how many troops he has) unless
target loy is very low. Also, a failed Threat pushes the target loy UP
making it harder next time!

In the above situation, I would Capture to be certain (unless you know for
sure that the town's loy has dropped drastically for some reason, eg his
nation has lost a lot of pops already).

Hope that helps,

Richard.

An old formula I found somewhere is this:

(modified) command rank must be greater than:

loyalty + 20 per level of fortification + 20 extra if capital.

This is presuming the proper amount of troops (which you have).
There are penalties for not having the "recommended" amount of troops,
but I've never fully understood that formula, but I have been told
that extra troops do NOT add to your chances.

As a town starts at 55, assume normal 60% taxes, loyalty appx 45
with a tower +20 according the the "old" formula, a 40 commander
hasn't a hope.

Been told that threatening has been made more difficult since this
formula was developed in the bronze age.

If you pull it off, let us know!

RD: The two critical stats are those of the Threatening commander v

loyalty of the pop (don't worry too much about troop numbers).

I disagree with RD, on this one. Troops do come into account, but
only as a penalty not as a bonus. If you do not have the minimun
number you can get around it with a higher command rank, but having
the righ number of troops does make it easier. However if you have
more than the necessary number of troops it will not add to the
threatening action what so ever or so it seems. But in agreement
with RD, command rank is what it comes down to, your 40+ doesn't
stand a chance, it could happen and then again pigs could fly. Take
the safe bet, capture the town. Wait until your guy is in the 60's
before threatening away stuff with fortifications and higher loyalty
stuff like towns.

Also, a failed Threat pushes the target loy UP
making it harder next time!

Never heard of this however I will have to look at it closer, sounds
plausible though.

Being a Mac user, I first read this title as a suggestion for keeping the
workplace free of Microsoft products...

That's what happens when you have tons of incoming email.

There's definitely more luck than this in the result. In one game, on the same turn, 2000 hi under a 65+ (ish) commander failed to threaten a town/tower(?) while another 2K troops under a 50 (ish) commander threatened a major town/tower.

A failed threat do push up loyalty. Brian try to take a look at DrL
pdf game 119 turn 5 and 6. Loyalty went from 63 to 71 and tax was
above 60. Lord Eoder tried a very optimistic threat and failed.
