Player Rating System? Eh... here's an alternative ...

I like Mr. Dobberpuhl's idea, however I would make one small change. I'm
not sure that the points values need to be posted for casual players. Like
the posting below, I'm not sure I want to be ranked in yet another aspect...
 Perhaps if Harley just kept the points values and used them when
setting up and assigning positions, that would make the initial setups more
likely to be fair.

For Tournament play, I support the points listing. Perhaps a Hall of Heroes
place on the website where tournament type players are listed. 2 points for
a team win, 1 point for a team loss and -1 points if you drop. You could
then make different heading for top three finishers.

For example
Name Games Played Points #1 Finish #2 Finish
#3 Finish
Clint 40 68 4 7
4

This would give people a bit of recognition and help balance the tournament
games as well. At a glance, you would be able to see whether the high
points were from a huge number of games, or good performance. It should
also be fairly easy to track.

here's an alternative...

I guess I haven't really chimed in on a player rating system
because I
聽聽聽聽lacked the interest in it.
Having pondered it on and off, I'm more against it, than in
favor of it.
Maybe its because I'm
聽聽聽聽against being 'rated' in yet another area of life. Here is
an alternative
聽聽聽聽solution that MAY
聽聽聽聽solve some problems...

1) All games are either "Casual Play" or "Tournament Play".
Harlequin would
聽聽聽聽have to decide when
聽聽聽聽where why and how they would want to run a tournament.
Clearly, players
聽聽聽聽could submit requests, but
聽聽聽聽when all is said and done, its up to Harley. I would believe
"Invitationals"
聽聽聽聽or "Round Robins" could be popular, but lengthy, to play in.

2) Whenever you play in a Casual Play game, you get a point.
If you are on
聽聽聽聽the winning team, you
If you drop out (Not "are eliminated/concede")
you lose a
Your point total is posted.
Yes: this means someone who plays in ten games and loses
each one has as
聽聽聽聽many points as someone
聽聽聽聽who plays 5 games and wins each one. However, if you drop
games on a regular
聽聽聽聽basis you won't ever get any

3) Whenever you play in a Tournament Play game you get
Tournament Points. At
聽聽聽聽the end of each tournament,
聽聽聽聽each player votes for who THEY thought did the best job on
their side, and
聽聽聽聽who did the best job on the other
聽聽聽聽side (1000 games probably also have to vote for a neutral).
You get 1
Tournament Point for each Tournament
聽聽聽聽you are in, 2 if you Win, -1 if you drop out, and 1 bonus
point for EACH
VOTE YOU RECEIVE.

This isn't quite as detailed and is more 'ebayish' than the
regular PRS
聽聽聽聽being tossed around, but
1) It punishes the join and droppers and
2) It rewards the top players who play in tournaments on a
regular basis.

I'm certainly not raining on anyone elses Idea for a PRS,
just posting my

I would like to think that a majority would vote to exclude
the current scoring system. I've found that maybe one in four
players who are on my teams top 3 are there as a result of good
allegiance play. The rest are notable as the targets of ire
as uncommunicative builders who don't send armies to the pass
because nobody sent flowers to them 3 weeks in advance begging
for some help for the Fire King....duh....

In fact, having the "Top 3" on my pdf makes me feel like it's a
special assignment from my anger management class..."See Now,
Look at these useless fools getting recognition? How does that
make you feel? Now, Channel those feelings into Cardolan! Yes!
KILL the Scions of the Dunedan! Veerrry good, now go home
and kiss your wife, pat-don't kick-the dog, ask the children
how their day went...excellent....."
