Hi all;
Just got a message from Lyndsay about a new player rating system.
Will someone in the Ivory Tower, reveal what the rating system will
mean and the uses of the ratings.
Questions that come to mind.
1) are the ratings being developed so that a player can go on the
forum and try to cherry pick an allstar team of other players to join
a game with him and thus have an advantage over the players on the
other side.
2) will the system be used by the moderator to try and match up
players in games with players of like ratings, theoretically to make
for more evenly matched games? If so it seems that it would slow down
the filling of games.
3) with the system, is there an advantage to the player rating wise
who through wealth or lack of a life that engages in 5 or 6 games at
a time as opposed to a player who plays only 1 or 2 games at a time?
If so what is that advantage?
4) to me any rating of a players ability should not necessarily be
how many games he has been in or even if his team won all those games
or not. The real measure of a players ability is measured by the
respect of his peers who played in the game both with and against
that player. I for example like a player who is tactically and
technically sound, but I also decide whether I would like to join
that player in a future game based on his or her personality, are
they fun to play with as well as good partners or opponents. Some of
my best allies now started off as opponents in other games. So does
or will this rating system have a provision for a peer rating of the
player?
I'm sure that there are other questions that I could think of or that
others out there have as well. I am just curious as to why we need a
rating system at all and since we are going to have one obviously,
how will we all be evaluated and for what purpose.
