Player Rating Vs. Fun

This is quite the insane thread, I feel its necissary to pontificate
for a bit!

It was mentioned at one point about people cherry picking their
nations so they can get a good rating. Well, I think that is going on
now without a rating system. People dont play the Dragon Lord because
they want to win, they play it because they want to see how long they
can "not lose" On the other hand, you pick the Corsairs to win!<S>
So, in the end if you are that worried about whether you are #127
versus being #129 you are probably the player that will never take
the DrgL or Woodmen now anyway. I dont think the ratings system will
change that. If, on the other hand, you play the game because its
fun, then you probably arent concerned with the ratings and never
will be.

Personally, I wouldnt mind seeing where I end up in the grand
comparison. Will I lose sleep over the fluctuation of my rating?
Nope. If I should end up at the bottom and be black listed by others,
then screw em! Gimme a team full of rookies because chances are they
will be at least more personable!

Fletch,

Gees, is this the only time that I have ever agreed with you?

I agree with Fletch 100%, rating system, or none, I only play for
the enjoyment of it (and I play a LOT of games). If the rating
system takes the enjoyment out of it, I won't play.

If lots of players did not like it then we would consider scrapping or modifying it. Note we have been asked on a number of occasions to create a system of rating. Based on the World Champs it went very well there and lots of fun for the teams involved as far as I could tell.
