Game 131, DS victory, ended recently. I started this game as the
Corsairs. DS under the gun early, lost a player, etc. Harad and
I had a decision: go free and end this thing, like NOW, or go DS
and make a game of it. We went DS.
Our WK/LR player dropped abruptly. I picked up both his nations,
(after his replacements dropped also!) and handed the Corsairs off
to Harad. I never wanted 2 nations in a 1 week game, so we
eventually found a WK. Sometime later, for VERY COMMON reasons,
I left the game (good team guy, I waited until my LR was picked
up). Guess what? The new replacements (players 4?) both ended
up leaving, I got BACK into this game again, ended up with
both WK and LR again... Eventually, for, again, COMMON reasons,
I dropped both nations, just walked away muttering (with the
wife and the credit card bill screaming in the background 
To the team's credit,they got them picked up AGAIN, and they went
on to win max 3 turns later.
Valar Rating - I get NOTHING. The guys who picked up a stand-by
in the mid-30's turns get full points. Perfectly fair. This is
a TEAM RATING, I picked up my die and skulked off home. The
new guys were in the right place at the right time, hey, that's
how much of the world works. They also took a chance - how many
nations get picked up in the late game? I'm guessing a much
smaller percentage than early game stand-by's... (Clint?).
Even if the nations were not picked up, and the remaining players
slugged it out and won, I, as the last player for those nations,
do not deserve the points AND, the team deserves the even greater
increase they would recieve with my points not included in the
calculation.
Maia Rating - I certainly feel that I deserve to be awarded
"experience" points for the experience I gained/played during
this game. Modify it downwards a tad to reflect my leaving, sure,
but I certainly gained experience, no?
Istari Rating - the new players reap the benefits of the high
scoring nations I built up and walked out on! (NOT!). It seems
to me, in a quick analysis, that the Istari Rating meets the
arguments of neither above ratings in terms of players moving
in and/or out of nations and the game....but to be consistent,
I don't care so I won't comment on whether the new guys get the
full points, modified, etc, whatever....
Thank you all for your patience! You can tell I'm eager for
ratings! I'll try to shut up now, unless called on to defend
my eager naivete against violent replies!
