Possible virus warning

When downloading e-mails my norton anti virus software flagged a mail
received from MEPBM groups as having a possible virus attached. My software
was able to quarantine it so that it hasn't effected me but thought I should
warn everyone else on the group just in case.

The message was from nplindsell, entitled game 54? I think. The attachment
seems to be a file entitled NAE24.mme and norton tells me it is infected
with a virus called WScript.KakWorm.

Hopefully this is a false alarm and is just my anti virus software being
overcautious.

Just in case Norton tells me a description of this virus can be found at

That's why I hate receiving html e-mails, it's a possible virus carrier.

I always flag down any java scripts requests when openning a html
e-mail.

For public safety purposes, can the list moderators enforce a ruling
that no html format e-mails are allowable and force all mailing list
members to change their e-groups subscription settings to send
e-mail in text format only ?

Hi,

For public safety purposes, can the list moderators enforce a ruling
that no html format e-mails are allowable and force all mailing list
members to change their e-groups subscription settings to send
e-mail in text format only ?

I agree - though I'm not sure this can be done. I moderate a couple of
these lists and though you can strip all files of attachments (which
makes it a bit safer) there's nothing in the Settings that enables you
to turn all html files into text.

That said, you should be able to do this in your browser.

True. And if not you could always start using another program for you
email (such as Eudora) where you can do this. It's also safer in
itself since a great deal of these viruses seem to target themselves
at the Microsoft applications (Outlook, Word etc).
Have no idea how it is for Mac users. Probably less of a problem.

Friendly regards,

Johan
