When I go to the gas station for my car I now have to pay 50 Euro for a full tank (German prices  ), this is about 6-7 turns with Harley. Three years ago I could get a full tank for about 35-40 Euros.
So my oppinion to the Harley price increase: Drive less with your car and use a bike, it is healthier and you will safe money to play more games
I am glad I can get a response…though what some respond to always baffles me. There is nothing wrong with anything I mentioned, just trying to make a point…hopefully it is not missed.
Good gaming!
I would think actually that the older players are the ones more likely to quit. I started playing the game when GSI was running it, sheesh, back in the early 90’s I think. The game was $6.50 then, and stayed that price for more than a decade. Harlequin takes over, and BAM! A full dollar added to the cost. Then, they’re going to continue to increase the price each year, simply because of inflation?! I could understand this if the costs of raw materials were driving the cost of manufacturing the product up. But this is an ethereal product. There are no raw materials. I’m sorry, but to me this just seems like extortion in a sense. I cannot abide philosophies like “we shall raise the prices, because we can.”
I don’t mean to speak ill of any individuals, that is not my intention. But there are those of us out there who DO vote with our dollars as consumers. This years price increase is small. There is no argument from me on that. Last years was not. The fact that the price is going to continue to go up “in line with inflation” to me is unrealistic. This is why I have stopped playing. The company has the right to do what they want, but they shouldn’t be surprised if people get disgusted and leave.
I am an old player, played under GSI, Deft, and now ME Games. While I would ideally not like any increase in price that is not realistic. The cost is not fixed. The program itself may not change, however the cost to pay people to input the data does increase over time, or are those of you who don’t accept inflation people who work year after year without an annual pay raise. I doubt anyone playing the game foregoes his or her annual pay raise and in fact expects it to keep up with the increase in the cost of living. I would expect those who work at ME Games are much the same as any of us.
Second, when I first played, there was one choice. Now there are Gunboat, 2950, Fourth Age, and Bofa. if I missed a game I apologize. There are grudge games that are run as seperate varients as well. So the company has not simply remained static, they have attempted to provide a line up to meet the gaming desires of players for something different. Those additional gaming opportunities do not develop themselves. There are costs associated with development that must be passed on to the consumers. I do not understand the point of the complainers. You pay more for meat than you did last year. You pay more for electricity than you did last year, you pay more for gasoline than you did last year, you probably pay more for just about everything you consume than you did last year so why should the game be any different.
All your entertainment spending is discretionary, you have to make choices on where you will spend it. If this is too much for you to sustain then perhaps you should husband your resources more closely and either not do something to cut your entertainment costs. If your choice is to not play the game well then that is your decision. I am sure when your heating bill went up you did not give vent to your increased costs to heat your house, you paid the bill because you wanted heat. If you want to play the game pay the price and be done with it.
I was trying to be polite. I could have said stop complaining not a one of you is suggesting anything positive you are simply complaining about something that you have complete control over. Too much for you to ante up the few more cents a turn. Stop playing then, shut up and go away.
Ok Brad,
I think Clint posted this for the players to vent and complain. I’m sure he expected a can of worms. Last time I checked this was still a legal right. Least in USA and UK.
Is that not what forums are for? Rudeness is not becoming, though it does shine light on the persons character.
Using the same reason you propose…
If you don’t like the freedom of speech, don’t read.
By the way, I have stopped playing, as already clearly stated. And my reasons for doing so, are also clearly stated. That you cannot understand them is not my problem. And if that is you trying to be polite, you missed the mark just a little. Yours was the first angry toned post on this whole thread. And lastly, I do believe the suggestion, implied or implicit, was DON’T RAISE THE PRICE.
**Edit This post was a bit more terse and a lot less politic in its orignal form. If anyone saw this before this edit, I apologize for my wording. **Edit
Well a couple a hundred years ago or so you wanted to tax the crap from us, now we’re even, LOL Oh yeah, and gas is at $2.15, and I can still get a pack of smokes at $2.50 here in Florida, where in NY they go for $6.00
Oh puh-leez! Talk to China and Mexico if you’re worried about pollution. The American soccer players liken playing at the Azteca in Mexico City to walking into a smoke filled room.
Ok everybody whine and complain to your hearts content. Never mind that the provider of the game has a payroll to make, or bills to pay that have gone up. Yes he should hold the line forever. After all a change of 2.50 over 15 years is astronomical no wonder so many are in such a tizzy.
Strong ending comments maybe, directly insulting as the one by Scott that preceded them no.
My point is that for Dendra to complain as stridently as he has and claims to have stopped playing for the extortion like fees that he claims that ME Games is simply hypocritical. I would suspect he expects a yearly pay raise, but it seems that he does not think that fees should ever increase. He apparently believes that once the program was written and paid for that there is no further cost involved that nothing new has been created since 1991 so there is no need for cost increases. I tried to point out the new variants, the fact that real people need to be paid to input the turns and they doubtless would like to see some modest increase in income over the years just as probably all of us do. This is not to mention that equipment must be upgraded or replaced etc so Dendra just seems to me to miss the the fact that there will always be an upward creep in costs of playing the game. The increase last year was bigger than this but in the past year ME Games has bought the program free and clear. This years increase is a pittance, so the claims that he will no longer pay what he feels amounts to extortion is to me simply absurd, but if he feels so strongly about it he should go elsewhere. I doubt that the extra costs to run turns will have a negative impact on anyone’s quality of life, but if it does they have more serious issues to worry about than griping on this board.
This is weird. I find myself agreeing with both Brad and Scott. And I’m paying 0.85ish a liter, just under $4.00 a gallon here in Canada. I like the American defense of their environmental policy too - “We’re corporate sell-outs on an unheard of scale…but but…the Third World is Worse!” Yeah, thanks for the “leadership” there…
