Every subgroup operates by rules and standards that differ from that of the larger society. The prisoner's 'convict code' is negative and exploitive. Those who do not accept that are potential victims.
I have read some items on this list which concern me. These are the very persons who need protecting, because their assumptions do not mesh with reality. Prisons do NOT routinely read outgoing inmate correspondence. So, the prisoner wants to have a homosexual meeting with you in two months, when he gets out for auto theft? If you assumed that the prisons read outgoing inmate correspondence then you accept he will be geting out in two months for auto theft. The reality is that he has 20 more years to serve, for violence, and he is setting you up for something else.
