Hi Mike I am not sure if you have got the point here. Or
maybe you have.
Let's see if I can clarify things. If a player wants to use a
name other
than his real name that is okay. I have had several players
ask for this
for various reasons and that is okay.

However, if a player is knowingly playing 2 positions and
claiming to be
someone else for a benefit in the game then that does not seem to be in
order for me. As you said - this is a not a nanny state (In
your opinion) -
therefore people are allowed to have their opinions - even if
they disagree
with you. But as a GM I have to make a ruling whereby I can
keep as many
players happy as possible. Agreed?

So in that case I need to know what the players think about
the situation
and if they are happy about the rules we put forward.

So in the above case of someone playing without our knowledge
(don't forget
we are by law required not to pass on information if asked to
by the player,
although there is an assumption that unless oyu tell us
otherwise we will do
so) that is breaking the rules that we have presently in
place. These rules
are negotiable though (which is what I am trying to put forward here).

For what reasons are these players hiding their identity? Is
it to gain an
in game advantage - in which case this is not allowed (ie in a
single person
game,ie one position per player game, the rules are just that.
Anything
else must be discussed with the GM first.) There are plenty of
opportunities to get games with us whereby you can run more than one
position if that is what you like to do. (The reason for one
position per
player is that you are able to co-ordinate more effectively and have a
certain guarantee about the posiitons actions which is not
normally there).

I hope that helps and that you can answer some of my queries above.

Thanks

Clint

firstly may i state that i know someone who plays this game under a

pseudonym

and that the following is at best extremely unclear, certianly

offensive to
the person in question

and his/her friends.I personally feel that an apology is in order!
i will try to explian calmly, not always a particular skill of mine.

Hi,

Now that is has been brought up I am curious to what

players think about

players running positions under such pseudonym. Do you mind?

Do I mind?

YES!!!
this is fine its apersonal opinion.
frankly i see nothing wrong with people playing under a different name

particularly if they played under their real name,

and they have e-mail they could be bombarded.Secondly it

would be alot less
hassle for them to play under a different name.

Before I get carried away though, let me state that I have no

objection

to someone openly playing two positions with the consent of all others
involved AND with the knowledge of the GM. But...
fine this is getting of the piont but i would agree(shock horror)
Playing additional positions in any game in a situation where you are
not only trying to deceive other players but also the GM, is just *not
on*. To put it bluntly it is cheating.
thi seems fine as well, playing two positons with different names is
clearly not in accordance with at least the spirit of rules.

what action should we take should we think that something

like that is

happening?

Give an official warning and a requirement that the pseuonym

position be

dropped immediately. Any repeat and I'd kick them out.
sorry complete and utter rubbish.playing under a pseudonym is

not against
any rule i know of and if someone

wishes NOT to play under their real name it in my opinion is

thier right
too do so!!!

Proof is a difficult one, but believe me, GM's usually have a pretty
good idea when this sort of thing is going on. The point about hotmail
etc emails has been made. As a GM myself I do not allow players in a
game unless I am certain they actually exist, merely providing an
anonymous email address is not good enough. In some

circumstances where

there is some doubt, it is often best to ask the relevant

player to ring

you.

if the person does not wish to reveal his real name what

right have you to
make him.

if i wish to play in a game as john doe what harm is it!!
none at all
this is a game and is played for enjoyment,
it is NOT 20 questions.
To summarise... playing a position uunder a psudonym without the
knowledge and consent of the GM is cheating.

This final statement is just totally offensive
if a person does not wish to give his/her correct second name

as it would
"identify" them

that is fine by me and everyone i know!
Basically if someone has political views right of attilla the

hun that is
also fine,

but i would strongly suggest you keep these views to

yourself,as they are
likely to offend.

If (and being charitable i hope it is)this e-mail is about

players playing
two positons one under their real name

and one under a pseudonym,i would (and i am fairly sure most

people )would
agree that this is wrong and

should be discouraged. However if people do not wish to be

associated with
their family name and play under

a pseudonym,THAT is fine,in no way is that cheating and i

would be damned
to be in game where they need to

tell the gm their real name, this is not a police or nanny state.
