Question about army/dragons

Your army was overrun because your commander was facing a dragon all by
himself after just one round of combat.

One way to visualize it would be to picture the armies meeting, the dragons
doing their thing, and all the troops promptly deserting. Both commanders
(unfazed by the opposing dragon) say "Follow me, men!! Uh, ... men? ...
men?" then promptly cower under the nearest rock. The dragons fly away.

Later that night, both commanders send their reports back to HQ -- your guy
says "we fought for hours but were overrun" while the WK's guy says "we
fought for hours but were routed."

The commanders don't gain any rank because everyone who looks at their report
realizes that they didn't "fight for hours." After all, why promote a
subordinate that lies (and poorly at that!)?
