Question About Split Army

Thanks to all for your helpful answers to my previous questions.

I now have a question about the 765 order, Split Army.

I have a largish army with a commander and a sub-commander. It encounters an enemy army, which I suspect is rather smaller than mine. My commander issues Attack Enemy and Split Army. The sub-commander issues Attack Enemy (in case the comander is killed in personal challenge) and Move Army. What I hope to achieve is the destruction of the enemy army and then the splitting of my victorious army, one part of which will march off with its new commander. If the main commander is killed in personal challenge, then the entire army will march off, which is OK for me.

My question is this: what if my army is victorious in battle but what remains is smaller than the numbers I specified in the 765 order? Will the order go through with whatever is left of the troop types specified in the order as it was given? Or will the order simply fail and the entire army just stay where it is?

Thanks for any help you can offer.

It will go through and the effects will essentially be a 780 order.

If you 765 successfully, but there is less than 100 men in the main army, it will disband. Be wary of the potentials and guage your best risk strategy.

Why even do the split? Unless you really want you subcommander to be the new commander no matter what.

You can achieve the same results by having your main commander just attack and move, while having your subcommander refuse chall and move army. If your main commander is killed in a pc, command will be transfered to the subcommander who will then march the army out
