Question on evasive army

Hello all,
Hope someone can help me.

What's the catch in travel armies in evasive mode?

I have 2 ideas:
1. The army is harder to block?
2. The army is (sometimes) not showed on enemies' maps?

Can someone tell me what the correct answer is?

-Tommy

The answer to your question is yes. To both.

Sometimes it's nice (especially if the pop is off of
enemy maps) to move evasively on a pop, because
sometimes the popcenter report won't show the army as
being there, leading to a surprise message in the
combat report the following turn for an unsuspecting
nation (good example of this is at game start, the
dwarves moving their army evasively to the dragon lord
pop in the iron hills).

And yes, the army also because harder to block... it
becomes possible to move through and past an enemy
army in the same hex. Doesn't always work though...
lots of factors get involved (sizes of armies, etc).

Greetings Tommy

Your icon is always shown on the enemys map, but your army might not be seen
in the enemys pop centre report. (makes sense if another one of your armys is
there)
Also you can move through enemy fortifications and or armys if the move is
successful.(Once I have seen a Dunlending Cav move from Minas Ithil to Barad
Dur throzgh 2000 Fireking troops and the Castle at Barad Ungol)

Hope this helps you

Stefan.

I was unaware the army was harder to block. Interesting.

The army does indeed show up on everyone's maps, but it almost never shows
up on a pop center report or an army roster report. Evasive movement also
shields the army a bit from scry hex/area, scout hex/area/pop/army, and
recon orders, turning the report into a contest between the scout's rank and
the army commander's rank. Don't know the actual numbers invovled, but it
is a big help.

There are players out there who have actually used this technique in the
past, and could give you better information about 'real-life'
effectiveness. All my info is second- or third-hand. That said...

Evasive armies can sometimes (not always) slip past enemy armies and
fortifications, and in rare cases will not produce a 'line report' on
enemy pop centers. It's rarely used because evasive movement doubles
movement costs, but might be helpful in sneaking a flanker army into an
enemy's undefended backfield, for example.
