Question regarding Ethical Business Practices

Believe it or not, this is not off topic to MEPBM so I hope many players will answer.

Lets say a company passes coupons claiming $1 off any purchase made with the coupon. However, when you enter the business, and present the coupon, you find that they add a $1 coupon processing fee to every order. The result is that if you use the coupon, you pay the exact same amount as if the coupon had never been created.

Now, the company says that you did save $1 even though you just paid the same amount as if they never issued coupons. Their argument is that not increasing is the same as saving.

Would you say this company is being ethical?

Now suppose the company only presents the idea of a discount coupon and coupon processing fee, but due to customer dissatisfaction, they never implemented the idea. Was the presentation of saving you money if you use a coupon still unethical?

Obviously, this is a comparison to the Automagic/price raise issue. Your analogy, though, is completely backwards.

Clint didn't charge you for using a coupon. He perceived the need to raise the price, and then issued "coupons" (in the form of Automagic) to allow customers to avoid a price increase. He doesn't charge a fee to use Automagic - he charges less.

I've said before, and I'll say again: I don't understand why you so mistrust Clint. The price of a turn was due to increase. Clint could very well have increased the turn price and encouraged Automagic without giving a discount, merely on the basis of saving players' time, and taken double profits. Instead, he chose to "pass his savings on to you" (to coin a phrase) in the form of avoiding a price increase.

In the end, your perception of the situation is driven purely by your mistrust of Clint's motives. Those of us who trust Clint and appreciate his fine service to the community are hard pressed to see him as the ogre you portray him to be.

I'd laugh in their face and go somewhere else. It's called
free market capitalism and/or democracy. Either you can find
the product or service somewhere else, or you can choose not
to purchase the product or service. Your freedom, your choice.
Ah bliss!

What the heck have Ethics to do with any "company" in our
society? I've been under the impression you were jaded
enough to be way over this kind of thing.

"...due to customer dissatisfaction..." Sounds like the consumer
driven economy we're all prisoners within working exactly how
it is purported to. This anecdote of yours make me feel all
warm and mushy inside. All is not lost to the likes of Worldron!
