I’m an old-timer returning to the game with question about dragons:
Do they join the commander with the highest challenge rank, the highest command rank w/ artifacts, or the highest combined ranks w/ artifacts?
How much do they vary in how much they add to the combat? Stunted Uruial vs. “A dragon” Scorba for example?

It varies, Dragons are unique characters like every other. They get stronger with age - flying magic users are more powerful than those engaging in physical combat. The elderly dragons, though, are weaker than the youthful exhuberant ones… Smaug, Itangast and Throkmaw are amongst the strongest. Some have attempted to measure combat strength, you’ve probably run across these numbers in the deep dark past, haven’t seen much since the original accountants - from 25,000 through a a few in the 30’s and a couple at 45,000. Smaug and Itangast are reputed to be stronger than that. Urial is in the “elderly” class…spitting at you through his toothless mouth…
