random artefacts once again

Hi there,
there is a constantly articulated demand for artefact randomization. Now you cant change the source code, so thats bad. Here is an idea how you could achieve the same effects without doing changes to the main program.

I believe Harley has an automatic input software for Automagic

You take all the artefact numbers and randomize them outside of ME. Then you map the randomized numbers to the not-randomized ones within the input program.

All orders concerning artefacts (locating, finding, transfering, stealing, throwing away) have the parameter concerning the artefact changed accordingly to the established mapping.

say #1 is mapped to #99

You write: 940 428 1
the input program transforms to 940 428 99
your pdf says. he was ordered to locate an artifact. Artefact #99 xxxxx is located at 1234.

The only thing you hav to do now is to remember that #1 corresponds to #99

If Harley gets a Automnagic-only game, would this be possible? The source code for the input program is easy and legal to manipulate, and the “main” program is left unchanged

Regards
Seb

PS: there might be some problems if you “discover” artefacts on someone. You must then know, what the “new” number is, if you want to transfer it /throw it away.

Certainly possible but I doubt we can organise the coding for that at present as we’re stretched. Note 1000 has random items but dragons aren’t there. It’s possible to design a set of nations for the game and use the 1000 scenario though.

Note some players want randomised artefacts, randomised dragon and other encounter reactions and other such changes but others do actually like it the way it is.

Hey Clint;

I like the game and don’t want to see wholesale changes in it. Technology has just overtaken the original design by GSI. In the days of 3x5 card communication and telephone conversations massing all the data that’s available now was much more of a challenge. As it is now the challenge is figuring how to deal with the various strengths and weakness on each side and coping with the advantages given by the recruitment of various dragons or recovery of artifacts. That however is fun in itself.

I agree… enjoying your 39 turn? :slight_smile:

Clint;

I believe you mistake me for the other Brad. I’m not in a game at present. I’m waiting patiently for our grudge team’s real world schedules to give us a chance to seek opposition. I may go solo again though soon.

Clint,

I am not enjoying my 39 turn because, frankly, Dwarves are ugly. I like playing humans and elves - when I name characters after my wife I can show her the picture. This game has brought me nothing but misery on the home front.
