Realism? Try the Murazor challenge.

If she had gone out with me, everything would be OK.

Its all her FAULT. If she wasn't so busy doing this or
doing that, she would stil be alive.

O.K. Din, turn off the Eminem and take a deep breath. You're frightening me.

Actually I'm fine with RC taking up a full order. In
real terms it means you are going out of you way to
avoid people.

Well, if it didn't take a full order PC would never happen, and Tolkein had a couple of important ones, so I suppose we shouldn't change it. But I still think it isn't that hard to avoid an enemy commander when you are sitting in the middle of a fortified city or a big army. That whole realism vs. atmosphere thing.

On question reguarding personal challenges. Outside of the
SImarillion, how many ever took place.

Clearly Beorn and Bolg at the Battle of the 5 Armies
Maybe Gandalf at Weathtop, but it was a driving off.
Gandalf's battle of Will with Murazor at the gates of Minas Tirith
Murazor and Theoden followed by Eowyn and Merry jumping in.

Can anybody think of any more?

Balrog v. Gandalf?
Sam v. Shelob?
Frodo v. Shelob?
Frodo v. Nazgul at Weathertop (and losing badly)
Pippin and Merry for that last Mushroom in the basket...

Actually, there are lots of "RFSPC" in the books...
The lads challenging ruffians at the end, Gandalf v. Saruman (twice), Sam v.
Gollum (Gollum backed down),
Bombadil v. Barrow Wights,...

Well, its all on how you read it, innit?
