Return from exile

After a long break from MEpbm I thought I'd return to see if my skill
with armies was as bad as I remembered it.
As a gentle re introduction I thought I'd pick up a neutral (are they
still regarded as scum of the earth?) Anybody got advice as to which
scenario is best these days (eg likely to start quickly, fun players
etc)? Never liked the War of the Ring one but never played the 'build
your own position'.

Oh and a big hello to Chris C, Colin Forbes and a few other people
whose names ring distant bells.

Greetings Andrew,

I am also a returning player, soon to try my hand in
Game 227 as one of the FP. I actually prefer the 2950
scenerio because I feel the choices for nations are
less "predetermined" than the 1650 scenerio, which I
started playing back in '93.

Also, the smaller armies and nations of 2950 make "the
little things" (even hobbits) more important, like
those 750pt. combat artifacts, combat spells, and who
ever thought a village could be precious?

I am also looking forward to starting a FA game with
limits on assassination and kidnapping, since many
felt this power became unbalanced in the FA. I read
about it in News from Bree online at the MEPBM
website.

Well, there's my two cents. Hope to see you on the
battlefield!

Hi Andy,

Great to see such a good player back.

2950 remains 1650 on valium. FA has perked up since they noticed that
everyone picked +20 assassination and then proceeded to slaughter
each other and brought in games without the ability. I might even
play it again sometime..... 1650 remains the dogs bits, with by far
the largest player base and quickest start ups.

There have been a few changes that you may or may not be aware of.
Our friends American have added a new dimension with some excellent
players and different strategies churning up the UK's stagnant pool
and you can always argue about Global Warming if you get bored
(though, as a generalisation, they're VERY patrotic in a knee-jerk
kind of way).

Agents are weaker with assassination much harder (except against me:()
with stealth a more important factor, e-mails de rigeur (no more 2
hour phone calls)and neutrals are much less despised.

Cheers

You always were a smooth talking dog.

Ah yes, the frantic cries of a desperate witch king, the grinding
poverty of the DS, the unseemly scramble to get Sauron every time he
appeared, the realisation that on Turn 1 you can see more Freep
armies on your map than you've got pop centres. God how I've missed
it.

Look forward to a change in styles.

What's a poor Cloud Lord to do. No more 70+ assassinations a game for
him anymore then (and some of those were Freep characters too).

That's the only reason I can even contemplate affording this game
again.

I find that difficult to believe coming from the man who after 2
pints always referred to them as @$*^!@# pond life scum, usually to
their faces.
