Ring Victories?

In game 2950-67 the BS got a LAT on the Ring, grabbed it and I think the
game ended before he could get it to Mt. Doom. Not that we needed it as we
had crushed the FP by that point.

If you want I can send you the pdf's off-list to your email.

Now we have been joined by the large US MEPBM community, we can finally get
an answer to that age old question: how many One Ring victories have there
been? (The last count I saw said zero.)

I have cast Locate Artifact True on the One Ring maybe 50 times in the last
year all games combined and never had the spell work once. In previous games
I at least got a glimpse of who had it and where! Given those odds, I don't
see the point of the possibility of such a win being included in the game.

Anyone able to prove me wrong?

I was on a team that found the Ring. We killed off Bilbo in a
challenge, got the ring, and it immediately fell off into the ether.
Never found it again. In another game, we LAT'd it once, sent a ton
of mages there to 900 and LAT and never found it again. We did see a
long thread about a game that did end in a one ring victory; the free
got to Barad-Dur and there was a party involving about a hundred
characters. The key 615 order failed and the free won. The
message they posted was amusing - cloud lord assassination thwarted by
the local Barad-dur militia (You say you work for cloud lord! Og no
care! Og say you go jail!)

cheers,

I read once (cannot remember where) about a game where a mage picked up the
one ring on a special service turn not knowing it was there (on the
mandatory 900 order). Don't know how true this was or if he kept it.

The only game I have been involved in where the ring was picked up it was
lost almost immeadiately. I heard a theory about the stronger the character
the less likely he is to keep it. So you probably need to create a 10 point
emissary to hold it long term. Never had a chance to test this though.

Another theory I have heard is that a LA or LAT is more likely to work the
closer the mage is to the actual location of the ring.

Yes, please! Send to gavinwj@compuserve.com: thanks!

The replies to this question seem to support my contention: the One Ring
victory is pointless.

A few years ago game 83 (with Allsorts running it) finished with a Ring
Victory for the free. We found it, dropped it, then found it again and
managed to get it to Barad-dur. A lucky escape for us since the Dark
Servants controlled most of the map.

So that's a least one in the UK.

Yes, but if you ever succeed in getting the One Ring victory, you could
finally quit playing MEPBM and get a social life!

That wasn't very nice... :frowning:

Was there a reason for posting your reply *three* times, or is the list
mailer still acting up?

Gavin

Ooops! Sorry! I meant it in general terms, mostly for myself, and not for you
in person! I'm once again very sorry for offending you, I know nothing about
your social life and I'd very much like to play with you in the future!

No, my mail program is bugged. Says it couldn't send the message, but sent
it anyway. Shouldn't happen again. Sorry about the spam!

No offence taken. I'm not sure what the emoticon for a mock hurt look would
be, so I went with the sad one.
