Sauron and MERP powerlevels

Hi

Does anyone (other than me) have access to ICE's "Lords of
Middle-Earth - vol. 1 The immortals: Elves, Maiar and Valar"?

This is a book summarizing the stats and stories of many of the famous
characters as ICE have made them for MERP (and all the characters
they've invented to flesh out the games).

As I can see it the characters and their individual levels in the 1650
and 2950 games are based on this info (and the other Vol and
RPG-supplements).

I personally think that the various powerlevels are pretty well set up
in this book - in it Sauron is level 360 at the height of his power
with the ring (which may not mean anything to you - but anyways) and
Gil-Galad is level 100, but Gil-Galad is a fighter whilst Sauron is
put down as a Mage so that they are fairly even in physical battle.

If anyone has access to this book try looking it over - I mean
everything else in the MEPBM is based on ICE's RPG so why not this
also. It also has all manner of fun things - like translations of
elvish names (especially for weapons and armor) and if you are a
Stat-lover this is the bøk for you!

P.S. I would also love a First Age game.

Yes but this was the First Age, where all newborn babies were at least 30th
level...

If you want to get really technical, the Ents were active in this age as
well. Another nation? And I won't even hazard a guess as to the abilities
of the Silmarils, should they be used by a character. (Thankfully, they're
a bit tough to obtain...)

And dragons and spiders galore. Heck, these things were so common, that DS
armies in First Age ought to be able to recruit them in pop centers, much
the same way you build War Machines now. A little food, some gold, an
upkeep cost... and voila: the army gets a bonus to combat. Make a chance of
losing them just the same as the chance of dragons leaving an army now.
Question is, what do the FP armies have to balance that?

A First Age scenario would be a real MESS to set up, much less BALANCE.

RD: I don't have the volume you mention but I do have the basic MERP book
plus the atlas and gazeteer, so I know what you're talking about. The stats
you mention sound right and just need scaling down, in proportion, to fit
the mepbm max of 100 for any natural ability.

Not having played 'MERP' before (or even heard about it), I was curious so
I had a look around the websites and found lots of modules that ICE have
released. No doubt anyone with a collection of these might be able to
answer some of the unsolved questions of the game?

For example, I firmly believe that ALL the dragons are recruitable by the
DS under the right conditions. We just haven't found out what they are.
Most players don't try and recruit Ruingurth for example, or Turukulon
because it's generally perceived to be impossible.

There's a module called "Creatures of Middle Earth". Has anyone seen this?
Does it help?

Anyway, anyone with a MAC can download a version of it at....

Someone with a MAC take a look and let me know?

And,

Page 49 of the 2950/1650 rulebook, says when talking about artefacts...

"artefacts....secret powers....might allow the wielder to cast certain
spells... even a non-mage!".

Has anyone had a non-mage cast a spell...? I can't think of an occasion
when that's happened.
