It can happen with rumours. If a character who did not have an encounter dies as a result of the encounter he did not have, there is a problem that has to be rectified…
If you’re playing the new format it can happen. You need to talk to Rob at ME. It can be rectified even if the character died.
The only reason you should miss an encounter you know to be there is if another character receives the encounter. If that hasn’t happened, particularly if something happens to you but you receive no encounter information, you need to talk to ME.
GIven the problem has arisen on the new format, if you don’t receive any encounter message, just contact them as your standard policy until they advise the problem is fixed.
While I have heard that the new code might throw things unexpected like that out there, I also know that even in the old code, a character present in an encounter hex, even though not the one having the encounter, can indeed generate a NatMsg rumor.
I played gm 34 with the new format; we had an issue with no one being able to get an artifact encounter for the Ring of Curufin even though we knew via spell that it was there and unclaimed. Ten turns went by and we had a presence there over several turns and were never able to get it.
I did not think of this being the problem but it may have been. Oh well we won’t know as that game has been dropped by the Free on turn 10.
