SS

The dreaded Special Service turn. Well firstly, I have to say that I am
still annoyed about it. I was off-line due to PC failure for a few
weeks earlier in the summer. When I came back there had been some sort
of consultation with e-mail players, and the issue of compulsory SS
turns had been decided. Apparently only a very few players declined the
SS option anyway. I was one of those very few.
If I miss my turn, I resent being charged for it.

I think the consultation went wider than email players. As for being
charged for a missed turn, it really is a fairly outrageous thing to
suggest that you resent paying for that turn. You are not just paying to
have orders entered, you're paying to be in the game per se. If this
were a roleplaying game were you got a turn as and when you sent in
orders, then obviously you only get charged on those occasions. However
I'm guessing that even a missed turn involves some sort of work at the
GM end, it's certainly the case with most games.

But I digress... Assuming the assistance of a GM in doing the orders,
then a standard set of rules like these, would be a start. All of the
figures marked * would be set in advance by the player. There could be
other options on the list, and players could choose in advance which the
GM should apply:

I like the idea oif a list of options! The trouble is, everyone is going
to come up with a different preferred list. Plus I wonder how much work
this would make for the GM.

Clint, some guidance on what is possible would be good here before we
all go off into fantasy land.
