*** The problem is that some players won't complain they will just drop. I
have had parents phone up before hand and as the game is not an adult game I
have to very cautious about what is allowed.
** Yes but not to the level of ridiculousness that I brought up as an
example. If you leave it to my judgement that might work and then complain
should I get it wrong? Then it can be checked again and a decision made.
Note there is large a difference between the names being offensive and the
player being offensive.
*** Yes everything is relative and everything has relative offence - for
example something a long time ago will have less impact (less relevant so
less potentially offensive). So the general opinion is that we should go
for GM control with over all with co-operation from players?
Hi again Clint,
GM control is obvious since it is you that runs the game. I suggested that we should do our best and comply with your decisions without complaining, but it all ends up in what you decide to base your decisions on. If you prove to be 'fair', then I am sure that most people will agree that complaining over your decisions is a bad thing to do because it stirs fair things up. But who knows if you will be fair... It seems from your answer that you already have a pretty good idea about what an 'offensive' name is to you. If you feel that there is a problem, then how about putting it down on paper, so people can find another place to play if they do not like it, and otherwise know what they have to stick to. But I don't think that you will avoid making odd decisions if you ban certain names. But it is obviously your decision, and the players' how to react to it.
You asked for opinions, and you got mine. I still mean what I wrote. Good luck.
Anders
PS. 'Erohwasirehtomstnilc' is an illegal ME name as it is too long, and therefore it has never been used. Just an example of what I find unacceptable....
