Dear Colin,

I saw the premier last night as well. Even though I unfortuately never have
kicked myself hard enough in the ass to start reading the books (only "the
hobbit"), even though I of course know the story in large details, I think
the film was absolutely awesome.
Especially the fireworks, Cave troll and Balrog special effects were
stunning, and Legolas outstanding tough, (why is he not in the pbm game ?).

Anyway I agree on the rating 8 of 10.

Hi,
Saw the film last night in a packed and rather noisy cinema ...

The film was excellent though, to a LOTR fanatic, a little disappointing
in some respects owing to things that had to be left out (Tom Bombadil,
the Old Forest, the Barrow Downs, Bill Ferny, the hilltop battle with
the Wolves etc etc). At three hours in length though, the film would
have been monstrous if everything had been put in! For anyone that
hadn't read the book though I guess this wouldn't matter.

The acting was excellent, with Christopher Lee stealing the crown as
Saruman. Moria sticks in the memory as pretty outstanding, as did the
orcs and the cave troll. The Elves were slightly camp and wooden though
Galadriel was good. On
the whole it was a visual treat and I'm definitely looking forward to
part two next Christmas.

All in all I'd give it an 8/10.

Colin.
