Game 66 ends in a FP surrender following 28 turns, which for long periods was quite a close encounter.
Thanks to the FP for making this an interesting and enjoyable game right up to the end, and the neutrals who split evenly to ensure a balanced game.
I would be very interested in swapping some early pdf’s, especially with the Woodmen and North Gondor, whose challenges on Urgubal and Khamul left me nauseous for weeks.
Unfortunately, this game isn’t over. A few of the FP don’t have the grace to know when they are beaten and have elected to play on even though half the team dropped. Those that dropped toughed it out, hats off to them, nice job all trying to make something happen. The remaining few- shame on you. Have some decency, you didn’t even pick up the dropped positions. How do you plan on winning with 4 nations? To avoid the kind of language I’d have to use to express my feelings I’ll sign off now.
Can you do me a favour, privately if need be, and tell me who these people who are staying are? I personally don’t favour a GM moderated automatic game end with unfavourable odds, but I most certainly DO favour a player moderated method of weeding out the a$$-holes who selfishly waste our time.
This issue always seems to pop up from time to time. I’m trying to remember the Hollywood movie with the lines “A man ain’t whipped until he quits”. If you have not properly prepared the opposition psychologically for defeat, they do not feel defeated. This is a Real World skill that can replicated in this fantasy simulation.
For a fact, I have been in games where one side outnumbered the other more than two to one and still lost. Lets not forget the Netherlands outendured the Spanish, plus other historical examples.
Then there is the gaining of Late-Game skills. You will never learn them if you are only in games that last 15 to 20 turns, as Clint tells us most games last.
The team you are playing against is skilled, and except for one member, all original players. They will not fall apart, drop, or make the mistakes that allow outrageous comebacks to occur.
That said, and with the latest game standings in front of me, it is clear that the FP cannot win this game no matter how skillfully they play. If you are able to fill the reaming positions (and I hope you do) you will be able to delay the inevitable, and practice some defensive skills. I for one appreciate the opportunity to practice late game skills so will not encourage you to drop. If you stay in please play your hearts out, so that we can take some small measure of satisfaction in our eventual win.

True. It’s a shame, though, that the Free who have remained have not even attempted to make up for their dropped allies. None of them have picked up a second nation. They can’t even fantasize of a One Ring victory with 4 active nations - the character attrition at B-D would decimate them… So, they’re only playing for the pure selfish joy their pdf brings them. Bully for them, it’s their money.
They don’t care about the allegiance, the team, communication or coordination (the state of this game makes these redundant statements…). Excellent. Who wants to be on the same team as any of them in the future? These silent, selfish types who simply don’t have a clue how the game is played successfully nowadays. Sometimes, this is why the odd neutral wants to know “who” is playing the allegiance nations…not because they “dislike” so-and-so, but because they know so-and-so is a sucky, selfish, anti-team git who’s only going to make the entire allegiance’s game miserable. There are people who I dislike (or who dislike me) but I wouldn’t have any qualms joining their allegiances…these FP-66 guys don’t qualify.
I am not in this game, so what happens will not affect me ni any way.
That being said, I kinda think it is bad sportsmenship to continue a game long after the outcome is obvious. Hanging on to make the enemy chase you around the board isn’t play; it’s playing spoiler. Maybe if the game didn’t cost so much to play, I’d think otherwise. But when people’s money is involved, it is another matter.
Actually, we’re all wasting our breath(breath?) here because after the Dwarf disappeared off the boards the only one posting was Herman.
The only thing I can think of is that these guys are focusing on their individual victory conditions, as if anyone really gives a crap.
With the game standings as they are, their individual victory conditions cannot be achieved. No matter what they do none of them will end up in the top three.
The reason I disapeared was medical (minor surgery) kept me away from posting (for about turn 21 to 27) so I could not insult you anymore. I enjoyed this game and am looking forward to play with or against you in the near future I am back to full health.
I officially dropped out on turn 27 and can understand the ones that stayed in and why they did.
I am very glad you are back and healthy! If the FP intend to stay in this game can you please ask your former allies to fill the dropped positions? Thanks.
