The MEPBM Leaderboard

Some of you may remember a couple of years ago when I used the PRS (player rating system) results to make a list of the “Best MEPBM players ever”.

Well its been a while so I thought I’d do it again. It has the same disclaimer as the last time, that this is not official and is probably not accurate. But if, like me, you find the PRS pages quite inaccessible and not a balanced picture, you might find this a bit of fun and maybe even a bit useful.

The Leaderboard combines nearly all the PRS ratings, with the exception of “Team ratings”. The 7 ratings it includes are 3 based on Victory Points, 3 based on Council of the Wise votes and 1 based on Win percentage. For each rating the base data is the table of 1st-104th taken from the MEPBM website pages. Ratings are all treated equally, no weightings, so while some may consider “Win percentage” much more important than “Best enemy player”, this Leaderboard does not.

This time I have allocated points for each rating in proportion to the rating scores, not table position. I gave 104 points to the person at the top of the table and 1 point for the person in 104th spot. Everyone in between got points proportionally based on the difference in their rating score to the 1st and 104th people (so everyone in the table got between 104 and 1 points). Then I totalled up the points to get the Leaderboard points. For fun I noted the people who appear on all 7 lists as “All-stars”.

All of it is on the attached Excel spreadsheet (zipped up because this forum doesn’t allow Excel attachments). For those of you who don’t like Victory Points there is a Leaderboard without any of the VP ratings. For those of you who don’t do the Council of the Wise there is a Leaderboard without that. For those of you who don’t like PRS at all I strongly recommend not looking at all.

Heres the main leaderboard in a simple list:

You’re kidding me !
210 players and I’m not on, how many players are there now ?

Well, I do wish you luck with this thread…

I actually did something similar once before in the deep dark days, but then realized that without the complete information pile, the data is skewed. Get all the scores for all the players and you can apply your logarithm to it, anything less is an exercise in developing the logarithm, but not one worth applying it to, IMO.

But if the goal is “One List” than that’s admirable. Problem being, my list is different than your list which is different than their lists (the logarithm’s behind them, that is…) and I highly suspect NONE of us are satisfied with the logarithms behind the existing too-many lists…

You’re not using the “Team Rating”?? and I made #22, and I’m primarily, a Grudge team player, so I would like to thank all the little people that made this happen, sob sob, and to the rest of you, nah nah nah nah nah, LOL

On teams that have winning records that aren’t on the “Team” list. Another team of 4 years ago, a single game, is on there, with the wrong name. Obviously just a “pile” that gets tossed at on occasion but of very little real meaning.

This was kinda “Stalkerish”, ,LOL

Very accurate rating system. Any system where I am rated above my brother is obviously correct.

Well Done!!!

Tim Huiatt

Gee, I haven’t lost a game since March 2004 and I’m off the List. Bummer----

LOL – was gonna say that about me and some of the good friends I have made in this game  – I haven’t looked at the PRS system in a few years – guess gonna have to take a look – funny thing and I will admit it – I know of a couple of players that I know are better then me and am wondering how I am above them , that has me stumped

Mike

Hey Mike, shhhhhhhhhhh, just bask in the glow for a while, before they find out, LOL

Hell Mike I find the rating system Hilarous! becuase it’s not even close to correctly showing who is making an impact today… Like the expierence point one… Hell i’m not even on the List there either… how many Overated players do I have to trash before that rating goes to just a placement on the top 100… I think some more limited diplomacy games are in order for me… So of all these players there are How many ahead of me! LMAO…

This is just another example of the good ole boys running around pating each other on the back! The true Impact players are in the results of the games Win or lose! To those who are over confident now about my recent One week game debalces… Pack a lunch! 210 players ahead of me LMAO

Hey, whatever happened to those emails that went out with all your PRS scores on it? I always loved finding out how far from the Istari leader board I was… Now, if you don’t appear on the website, you have no idea if you’re within 1 pt or 500… :frowning:

Brad

Rating players?

Disputable in my eyes!

Really not my thingie!

Gixxx
(the one who’s not filling out the forms rating players)

Tony

Is it possible to look at the last x number of games only? Or, the last x number of years only? This would take account of current “form” and would be a very good indicator of current performance and take account of any improvements over time (if you repeated the same exercise again). I think this would be a fairer system.

In the current system a loss a long time ago affects more the player who plays less games but has won recently a lot compared to a player who lossed a long time ago, plays a lot of games and has also won recently. Does that make sense?

I would suggest the last 6 games would be reasonable or the last 2/3 years…

Bryn

You’d have to ask Clint that. We don’t even know who’s “active” amongst the 104 names on the PRS lists… Consider, the PRS started with “self reported” scores in the first place, instead of what should have been 1500 pts across the board and go at it… And, all “Active” players should be displayed. Need a proper player database where I can click on “Next 25” and keep reading through until I finally find myself down there…

Ideally, we’d have access to a table of players (Aliases if you prefer, other games run that way…) with various Columns of Data and/or Ratings. See basic attached Excel for an example (okay, printed as pdf to upload…). Clicking on the column heading would sort the entire database by that column. Pretty common stuff (anyone ever look at sports stats around here…??) even though I can appreciate costs of creating such from scratch…

As mentioned the other times this came up, when we set-up the PRS we asked all players to tell us where and how they scored. (You’re win/loss ratio should tell you if we have your data. If we don’t get in touch with the data.)

When we have the conversion program sorted one thing we can much more easily deal with is the PRS and other data management jobs. If you want a more modern game I have to prioritise that conversion as other elements then come from that. Sorry guys, it’s been a bigger project that was originally estimated. If you want to help out with coding that would be great. Other feedback, as always welcome.

Clint (GM)

Well, I see lots of folks below me that I think are similar or better players than me. As to Ernie and Clint - I’m always asking Ernie questions about Fourth Age. He’s a veritable wise old man of the mountain in that scenario - I love having him on my side; I only just played with Clint, and it was GB where he was thankfully on my side. But he certainly seems to win most of the time. So both of them can easily be rated above me.

So I guess I think I’m overrated in this analysis somehow. (I can hear the chorus of people in the background agreeing even now!) And besides, I’m not an “All Star”…

Dave

This was my feeling to – as I think Bradford Fisher , Ben Shushan and definately Kevin Givens – THE REV (who i didn’t even see listed) are just a few of the players that I have no problem admitting are better then me !! But then again I realize that Clint and ME did this mainly for fun and bragging rights I guess  !!

Mike

Kevin is listed 21st.

Teamates, notice we need to defer to Dave and Drew’s plans, as they are better than Kevin as I think the rating system is real accurate <G>.

Tim,

the younger Huiatt brother.
